At the beginning of 2007, if you had asked me what upcoming albums I was most looking forward to, I probably would have said the new Arcade Fire, !!!, and Bright Eyes. If you had instead told me that I would be spending most of my time listening to LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, and Modest Mouse, I would have laughed at you. Laughed and thought poorly of your lineage. Because that would just be stu

Awhile back I was asking about some way to connect my laptop to my home theater system without draping a wire across the room. After looking around, the Linksys Wireless Music Bridge looked like it would do exactly what I wanted - put all of my audio through the speakers, as if it were a separate sound device. Yesterday I got one on sale at Best Buy.Now I'm not the best person with technology ...

A great friend of mine has a noise/experimental band called "My Boyfriend the Pilot", and she's been working on a track for an upcoming Legendary Pink Dots tribute album. Here's her dreamy, lo-fi version of "Frosty". I like how it sounds sort of like it was recorded inside a refrigerator...Without trying to sound too much like a shameless plug, she also has two shows this week in Pittsburgh. Mo

Last month I got a new laptop. It's all well and good, and even though the speakers on it are decent, it still suffers just from the fact that they're laptop speakers. I'd never heard of either of the opening bands, but I loved Dosh, t

Wow, I haven't been on Mog in a long time. I've just been too busy with other parts of life, out of town a lot, and I haven't really had anything to say. (I missed the Okkervil River show, poo!)So anyway, I did go see The Decemberists last night. The opening act was Lavender Diamond. They were pleasant enough musically, but they desperately need to put a muzzle on the banter. I don't mind th

It's weird, when I first listened to this album on Sunday, I thought it sounded like crap. I loved Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes, and had liked the earlier tracks I'd heard from the new one ("Wolf Like Me", etc). But man, it just sounded like ass. Poor sound quality and boring. But that was in my car, driving at highway speeds.Giving it a second listen now, in my living room, and it's i...

I didn't go on quite the massive splurge I feared I might this weekend, and only picked up a few cds: the new TV on the Radio and Hot Chip, some older Okkervil River and Magnetic Fields I didn't yet have, and a used Black Heart Procession cd. I was trying to save money, forgot what I was looking for, etc.But then today Insound sent me a coupon for 15% off total if I pre-order the domestic release
