Imagine the wiry filament of energy Perry Farrell meeting the one-and-only Lou Reed for the first time. This 'meeting-of-minds' occurred after Lou's Keynote Speech at the SXSW convention center Thursday, March 13th.

Perry Farrell

Keep in mind- since Lou can be sensitive to media- this is a rare occurrence to capture him talking so openly on camera.
Plus, since Lou had discussed his film "Berlin" during his speech, we thought it would be unconventional & kooky to provide Perry with"Berlin" questions in which we thought Lou may be interested (the Mog 'roll') and have Perry serve as a MOG Reporter for a day.

NOTE : Lou's press agent also gave us about 35 seconds to set up so forgive the shaky cameras and low-light footage and relish instead the intensity of the moment.

MOG rocks!!!!
I thought his DJ-ing was bad...then I saw him attempt to be a journalist...YIKES!!!
come on Pop. this is kewl stuff.
i agree with pop, weak. he said the first thing they want to know, would have been nice to say MOG wan'ts to know.
It is cool..and weird, and funny. Congrats Mog.
The footage was a little shaky, but not bad. PIX ! You got to hang out with Lou Reed! You had to be just a little star-struck.
I've never met Lou Reed(whom I've been referring to as the DeNiro of music), but I did brush up against DeNiro and I almost crapped myself.
steve, he's not a mog employee. that guys goes by his own drum...
Kudos indiepixie and MOG !
MOG needs more exclusive content featuring artists
Perry needs to MOG ...and stick to Jane's Addiction ;)
agree wanbli. i want these every week (or day!!!) and i want different moggers around the globe to do them.
very cool. im digging the videos.
hehe ok I am sipping a margarita at the Austin Airport -finally a chance to rest- so sorry for the late responses. BUT thanks for the love on the videos- I think you guys are too harsh on Perry- I haven't heard his interview stuff but he is one of my favorite artists to shoot and talk with. He's got such an amazing expressive face when performing....true tho he's a rocker and DJing is a totally different- yet equally complex art - (ps I mean how many freaking horrrrible DJs are there). Yes- was shellshocked from time with Lou- hence the weird awkward video intro....
LEt me EMPHASIZE this was done totally jungle style- one dude who is a sound dude holding one camera, another dude holding the other- in a dark light room that was PERRY 'S DRESSING ROOM ! yes. that's right. so we had to sacrifice quality to get two icons in Lou's dressing room at the convention center. you guys are harsh! it was such an epic event! (and I am completely and utterly biased) :)
love you guys. thanks for the support. i am downing this margarita and passing out. :)
cheers cheers SXSW hoorah!
This is a pretty big deal for MOG and an awesome interview in general. Lou Reed's voice is increasingly getting into "get off my lawn" old man range. Perry, however, sounds like he could still bust out "Jane Says" at any given moment.
David, you're right, this is kewl stuff.
>>Pop Savant is sorta right, Perry is no polished professional. But Pop, you draw the wrong conclusion. I find his "everyfan" persona refreshing, his hesitancy is ours. I can identify, you know?
Plus, the "bad" lighting, and "oblique" camera angles, coupled with the almost subliminal
camera shake lend it a surreal around the edges feel.
Very very kewl .And our little indiepixie has a charming camera presence, effervescent &
engaging. A little shy, and a little excited. A most excellent job all around.
Thanks for the post and the interview. I am waiting for the movie's release. Berlin is a major piece, a song cycle and I am very happy that Lou Reed chose to revisit this heartbreaking material. I though Perry did fine, no complaints about camera work, etc.
BerkBob
I'm with David - this is totally cool - and I want _more man... I definitely want more.
This is really cool. It has real authenticity and I like the fact that Perry is just being himself. Would love to see more moggers interviewing their favorite artists.
damn. only lou reed could make perry farrel act like a shy schoolgirl. what an amazing thing to witness. color me jealous. nice work, and thanks for showing that to all us music nerds.
short but sweet, considering that it was on the cuff I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 mogees :)
(Lou is looking like I've been feeling)
Greetings!
Good job, great interview, gorilla stylee!
Lou's press agent gave you about 35 seconds to set up......That sounds like a press agent with her priorities in reverse. Cool interview though - you need a musician to understand the story behind what Lou's saying. Cool coup!
My only complaint....too short! What a wonderful idea! Great job all around.
Who can we get next? Jeff Tweedy interviewing Tom Waits? Just my own wishful thinkin' :)))
blue meenie, we're going to post the long version soon. we have much much more footage!
Very cool, I like that MOG & indiepixie are doing this!
I think MOG getting Perry and Lou together for the first time is damn cool and you know Lou doesn't like to do interviews, never has, and they gave the video guys like 35 seconds to get set up and Perry is being Perry which is way cooler than some pro reporter who has done this for 30 years. Perry was diggin' it, trying to make some real contact with Lou Reed!! How cool is that. We'll be getting the rest of the interview up and I think fans of Lou and Perry will dig that footage too. And I was listening to Berlin yesterday and it is quite an amazing album, especially when you consider it was released in 1973, just very cool and heavy.
Looking to it.
:)
Looking foward to it. (My bad lol.)
;)
Hey, as far as I'm concerned, ANY glimpse into the mind of this living legend is a bonus.
Looking forward to seeing the film.
Kudos to Indiepixie and the MOG team.
THAT picture changed my life. I was already very much a Bowie fan ...about 13 years old. That picture led to a life long love of Iggy...a guarded sort of admiration for Lou's balls...and a trust that Bowie knew what the fuck was cool. it was a beginning. I started reading different books...listening to different music....
These guys loved turning their fans on to what they liked. That was a gift...especially in Bowie's case.
I use to see Lou at Max's getting his ass kicked...fucked up and stupid. I liked the guy. But, he was a total dick.
Of the three guys....I sat at the same table as Bowie...and he was an interesting fellow. (Iggy was fucking fun...crazy...high as a fucking kite.) I was tripping on very good acid when I met David...( Some of the members of "blondie" were there too!) So, the whole thing was weird. He took a girl with him (at the end of the night). I was friends with her. And for whatever reason, brotherly love..as I see it....I didn't like it. He never spoke to her. He kept her at a distance...like she wasn't worthy. I left New York a week later. I stopped pursuing rock stardom. I didn't want to be a dickhead. I didn't want to have enough money to become a drugged out zombie. I ended up doing THAT on the cheap. I'm clean now though...for the record.
I had made Bowie into something more than human in my head...same with all three. (except Iggy was approachable...one of US). It wasn't his fault. I guess if you could just walk up to any girl and say "you're coming with me"...and they followed....who knows what that's like? I'm a shy kind of guy. I just didn't like it.
With Lou...seeing him...and Johnny Thunders...stumbling around Max's
I don't know. He became a joke...like a lovable Ozzie type.
Like Ozzie...he hasn't made a great record in decades. I, personally, think he's totally over-rated. I know that's sacreligious to some. But, Lou doesn't do it for me.
if you go by the credo..."what have you done lately?"
...think about it.

It's cool that MOG got the interview. But, at this point in Lou's career, he'd probably do Good Housekeeping...if only they would call.
"But, at this point in Lou's career, he'd probably do Good Housekeeping...if only they would call"
haha SO TRUE !
If this is the first volley in a series of Rock-n-Roll interviews you're planning on doing then congratulations! Regardless of what you think of these two guys now, their names if not their bands names will forever be synonymous with RnR and the world of alternative music.
To be able to get these two guys together to do this for little ol'Mog, no matter how off the cuff or last minute it was, is a major coup.
