MOG MOG

MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Track: Dirty Eyes (Sex Dont Sell)

In the past 3 days in Austin, I've had more beer and BBQ than I think ever in my life. I've been a bit frustrated by the perpetual lines outside all the good shows, or that nagging little tug at the pit of your stomach as you watch one of your favorites band- while knowing 50 of your other favorites are playing in the 3 block radius. So far, Michael Stipe has been for sure the raging highlight.

However, Mog hosted its first SXSW party last night at a haute place called Pangea. Though there were rumors of Lou Reed performing, he ended up just chilling on the couch. (which for the record, was enough to keep me amused). No worries- The Raveonettes headlined and if there was one word to explain it, I'd say sexy. It was luscious, “My Bloody Valentine”-inspired erratic yet dreamy distortion- topped with the steely vocals of the goth-barbie Sharin Foo. I’ve met Sune through friends in late night stints in NYC, where he tends to be quite quiet and very sweet. Live- he rages on his electric guitar- and his tall, slightly awkward wry frame fits perfectly with the dark mod set. First time I’d seen them live and I loved it.

Other treats? The Black Angels, What Laura Says Thinks and Feels from Tempe, Arizona.

I bet The Raveonettes put on a killer set! Looks like it was a blast!

Hope you don't explode from all the beer and BBQ!

I am proud of my fellow countrymen.

I saw one of their first shows ever. I didn't know what to expect and I was blown away.

Sam - it'll be swell whenever you make it this way. really takes a load off. :)

Thanks Van - you're my favorite :) always a sweetheart.

Wish you all could be here. It is crazy when you actually meet a fellow mogger who you've been coversing with. When I met Pop Savant (i.e. Mark Levy) last night, it was so refreshing!

cheers!~ IP

Wish I could have made the party. My flight on Wednesday was delayed and I got into town too late.

That's a pity, emscee. Saw the Raveonettes do an amazing in-store show at Amoeba a while ago, but I would've loved to have been at the MOG do. Exceptional coverage, Faith - especially considering the distractions you've had.

Saw the Raveonettes last night in Chicago. I saw this lineup on the SXSW schedule and wished I could be there. I love The Black Angels and The Raveonettes both. I didn't realize is was a Mog show though. Some year, I will make SXSW.
