MOG

So a while back in September, I gave serious kudos to Santogold, who trumps MIA with her energy and frenetic dancehall rap on-stage. Since, she's gotten the Fader cover...and she's been signed to Lizard Kings records.

So I've been doing a bit of background research, since her flame seems destined to last much longer than a candle with a little fuse.

She was in a punk ska band called Stiffed. Reminds me of Gwen Stefani prior to her empire. Check it:

"Santogold was a nickname that I got when I was younger cuz I used to wear these huge gold name earrings. My friend who made it up said she got it off an infomercial for cheap gold, and that was it."
