Ok so I was editing shots of the EDITORS' performance when they were in NY a few weeks ago, and couldn't help but notice Tom Smith's incredible flexibility and grace.
It's not the first time I was reminded how graceful rock can be. Sure there's those oh-so-popular huge collectives, where half the act is literally bounding, prancing, and pirouetting across the stage...so it wouldn't a large 'leap' (no pun intended) for a new wave group to bust out in some ballet to add a punch to their live acts. How the hell else can anyone compete with Bjork's Pyrotechnics and reactables?
The ailing recording companies may want to keep an eye out for males or females who can play and dance the guitar at the same time; it's a fool proof formula. Hello- so you think you can dance? hehe....Is it not impressive, if not SEXY, if a man or woman lift their legs above and around their head while strumming a G chord?
If you are still unconvinced, let me remind you flexibility is not only an asset ON STAGE.....it has many other applicable benefits off stage as well.... :)

haha really? I have actually yet to meet a male ballet dancer...closest I have come is male figure skater.. one of the most healthy individuals....pretty refeshing really :)

IP Actor's and Dancers, in NYC at least, are notoriously bad people to date unless you yourself are an actor or dancer. I worked in theater for many years and I've learned this from experience. Actors tend to live in a controlled state of Multiple Personality Disorder and Dancers tend to be vane, obsessive and body dismorphic.
The only musician I ever dated was a guitarist and I quickly found out that she was a junkie, so that didn't last long.
Thinking about it, this could be just the kind of person I'm attracted too! :P

I'd no idea The Editors put on such splashy shows; from The Back Room (which I quite liked), I rather pictured them as shoe-gazer types.

Amazing picts! I saw them in Nashville and was quite surprised at how much Tom moved around the stage. I also pictured him as a shoe-gazer, but he was all over the place, at one point laying across the piano and then later jumping over it with guitar in hand.

Mimi and Zarpex- I too thought he would be a shoe-gazer! NOT AT ALL. very dynamic and impassioned on stage. I highly recommend the live spectacle if you get a chance.

It's always so embarrassing to have to tell someone that their G string is out of tune.
I remarked on my review of last Friday's SF show that Smith's moving around on stage more these days, but doing less by way of bodily contortions. Probably in part because he's playing more guitar, and perhaps in part because the band's now quite professional on stage.

See this is why we collaborate and realize they do the same damn moves at every same damn show! This was my first time seeing him live so for me, he was very fluid...and graceful. (Then again, i think the NY show was before San Fran so the dude may have been tired by then)...
