Happy Labor Day Weekend Lovelies!
Us here in the US are about to bid adieu to summer nights, waves, warm benches, BBQs, clam bakes, fireworks, humidity, the smell of sunscreen, sandals (and the blisters that inevitably come with), summer music festivals (and the hang overs that inevitably come with), barefeet, farmers tans, sex on the beach, pina coladas, palm trees, surfboards, corn on the cob, ice cream running through your fingers (or hair if you are really unlucky), raybans, short skirts, 6-packs (both kinds), hot dogs, sleeping on a bare bed with the window open............all these things and more - symbols of summer.....
And so I ask.....
you.....
moggers....
What's the best song with which to kiss summer goodbye?
Symbolically....
Ushering in Fall.....?

I always loved the Beach Boys "Endless Summer", mostly the song "In My Room".. it always felt like they were saying goodbye to summer even tho the title of the album said otherwise.
You know, the lady's right! Good call KoriLinc. I'm not really a big fan of the Beach Boys so I chopped the quote but you said it fine.....
" .......the Beach Boys "Endless Summer", mostly the song "In My Room".. it always felt like they were saying goodbye to summer even tho the title of the album said otherwise."
And the best part is, that thought never dawned on me before, but its so obviously true.
Excellent
hmmm i am with you Kori excellent choice :)
what about a new artist tho?
I'm not sure Amazon's list is even close to what I think of as an end of summer song...
Its weird I play the same song this weekend to remember how great the summer was and that is The First Day Of Summer by Screeching Weasel.
seasons will change and so will you
i've seen the signs a million times before
you try so hard to keep your cool
what's the matter with today
you're always planning somethin
and that something's always twenty
years away
come on now it's the first day of summer
please don't let it slip by just try
to sqeeze all of the life out of it
this is a summer day
but i thought that i heard you say
it's just another day watch it go by
the summer's starting so
why aren't you
we're getting older every day and
i can't stay here getting old
with you
did you ever notice
that the summer's almost gone just
when it starts
pleaes don't stop
here comes summer
the summer's starting so
whey aren't you
we're getting older every day and
i can't stay here getting old
with you
don't stop
please don't stop
who makes these amazon lists anyway?
people in charge of record sales I am guessing
haha the heritage arms of the record labels :)
two words.
champagne. supernova.
Porno For Pyro's "Good God's Urge" has been one of my #1 Summer Albums for a long time.
Tahitian Moon - Porno For Pyros:
...who says we have to close out the summer...? ;)
Fleet Foxes "White Winter Hymnal" would be a good way to parler into Fall (and maybe even winter). Oddly, that was the song of the summer for me.
VAN where have you been??
Eric- I am wit you on WWH :) beautiful tune!
do it again again - the tyde
is all about doing all that cool summer fun stuff and doing it again (again) "when summer comes along, will power will be strong" at http://www.myspace.com/thetyde
and there's that old chestnut 'summer' by buffalo tom
"Summer's gone a summer song
You've wasted every day...."
While I wouldn't consider myself a Kid Rock fan by any means, I heard All Summer Long on the way into work and it hit the "closing-out-summer" spot nicely. Here's to rockin' out the remaining two and a half weeks of summer-cheers!
Depending on how I'm feeling any given moment, Coma Girl by Joe Strummer has a certain summeryness to it for me, but then there's the Guitar Wolf version of Summertime Blues, which is well served by being twice as loud and half as intelligible as the song is meant to be played.
