The Cool Kids

One thing Outside Lands seemed short of was some of the more rap and hip hop artists and electronic DJs selections. Unlike Coachella with its expansive electronic dance tent and Lollapalooza with an assortment of hip hop artists and dance stages, this festival was for the most part a lot of white folk and rock artists (even some forgotten ones- like Cake anyone?)- save a token rapper or two (Lupe Fiasco) and a splattering of world music (thank you Manu Chao) and reggae (thank you Toots above).

So it was delightfully refreshing when The Cool Kids bounded onstage- feisty, joking, and rapping silly about girls, cars, and how whack it was that there were windmills nearby. With them came the small consortium of day-glo hipsters with neon shades and plenty of dance attitude. It was a little fiery kick to the hippie cool-aid.

Evidently not everyone likes hippies....

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE
Speaking of hip and indie.....Next up, on the Twin Lands stage, on came Broken Social Scene with a whole new social scene. There was the chick from The Stars, as well as the guy from the Apostle of Hustle, who spent the first three songs cloaked n a scarf to disguise his identity. But fans they had- packed deep- and it's through the consortium of sound, the collaboration of instruments- and those heart-felt climaxes - that Broken Social Scene managed to cause mid-day goose-bumps.

I find it amazing that you cover all of the bands I like with great pix and commentary. You should be working for Rolling Stone.
I find it amazing that you cover so many bands I've never heard of and make me wish I had. Oh well, I have now.
most of the pix in both of these posts are saying "currently unavailable". :( is flickr down or somethin?
