WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

NEW EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEWS: Joseph Arthur: Jo Paints, Sings and Talks About Internet and Music and Lots More

Posted about 1 year ago

Recently, I had the privilege to catch up with singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur, in his art gallery in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

(CHECK OUT THE VIDEO INTERVIEW CLIPS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST - IF YOU'RE SEEING THIS ON THE HOME PAGE, USE THE MORE LINK BELOW TO GET TO THE FULL POST AND SEE THE VIDEO.)

A bike-riding Renaissance musician, Joseph Arthur has got infectious energy and is constantly creating- whether it be song-writing, painting, photography, blogging poetically, and making tunes.

Discovered originally by Peter Gabriel, Jo has long since proved his musical talents; he's made 8 albums (the 8th out this summer), toured with slew of artists including Tracy Chapman and to boot, Michael Stipe and Coldplay's Chris Martin have covered his song "In The Sun." Currently, he's preparing for summer tour (first stop Europe), while releasing four new EPs, two of which have come out already ("Could We Survive" and "Crazy Rain"), and one that comes out in June 10th, Vagabond Skies. Catch him if you can!

During the interview, he showed us his impressive art gallery, teasingly called THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ARTHUR (MOMAR), that's packed wall-to-wall with colorful monolith pieces, from which paint drips like cobwebs and merges with primitive sketches and complex spiraling patterns.

Most surprising? The dude is gung-ho about technology- heralding the internet for its freedoms, rather than protesting its faults. He recently started a dynamic Bag is Hot (named after popcorn; http://josepharthur.tumblr.com/), which combines his artwork, poetry, music, and photos. Unlike a lot of artists who are hesitant to toy with technology, he's all for experimentation: digitally releasing albums, propelling online news, and interacting with fans on the web.

In a land of twitter, crackberries, and i-tunes, Joe Arthur is an artist to watch- pave new paths and stake new claims on this technological terra firma. We're glad he's invited us on the ride!
