EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello

Posted about 1 year ago
So as luck would have it, Tom Morello (ze man of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave (R.I.P), and currently of the one-man acoustic gig The Nightwatchman) talked to us during soundcheck this past Thurs, April 17th. 4 hours later, he delivered a rockin' performance with his 'blackberry' mates (think: Slash, Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, our good buddy Perry Farrell, and as slew of other musicians at the Nokia Theatre in NYC.) The benefit event was part of his non-profit project Axis of Justice "Justice" Tour- meant to combat all forms of social injustice. (www.axisofjustice.org). Slash smoked a cigarette per song and Jerry head-banged and they all sang "This Land Is Your Land" Good for the ears and good for the soul... Check out the interview below:CLICK ON FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO: Random Fact of the Day: Both Obama and Morello both have Kenyan Fathers, hail from Chicago and went to Harvard? Pretty crazy commonalities....do I smell another presidential candidate?

  5. indiepixie says hey james12- narly you are excited. Here's the first clip, where he started to discuss his new tour; Tom is clearly very passionate about the cause. 8. SinAndSuffering says In Utopia, heaven, -- my dream world I constructed in my mind - in that world world I would vote for Tom Morello for President. In that world, he would win the presidency by a landslide. Of course, some people would still mess up at the booths and hit the wrong button, or forget to sign their name. Let's not kid ourselves: as a planet we're moderately intelligent. I only really need to look at one party in our American political charade, and one party in the British Parliament, to tell you that we might be a little duller and dimmer than I thought. Regardless of blaming though, I am going to be voting for Obama - and it's because I feel like he relates to our generation. He would support this tour, simply because it supports this nation. In a logistical sense, it would look something like this: If not Tom Morello, Then Barack Obama. Excellent interview - excellent video. You are my favorite person in the world for today! Kudos, Kyle (sin&suffering)

  12. James12 says sorry I'm just getting to this now, I kinda clocked out early yesterday, the interview? exactly what I expected, the man is an intelligent musician, who in his words, is fighting the power, something a lot more people used to care about before, faith, I think you held your own, i don't think you look like you were "coughing up a hairball", i think you look just fine. and as tom morello for president? don't know about that, but that vice president spot is wide open, think about this... obama/morello 08, just saying it...thank you for posting this, you are one of the pillars of the mog community, and I hope to see more later, peace.

  17. vannatta says pixie - you need to host your own cable show - get the powers at MOG to hook it up - what a great cross promotion for the site - what a great way to promote music - and awesome causes like social justice - and Morello's fantastic work being done there... my boy Henry Rollins... Look out! :) I love how modest you are too - "as luck would have it" - you seem to be making a lot of your own luck, and I think I speak for everyone when I say - "We Are Grateful" - please don't stop...(!) All the Best, Van

  18. indiepixie says van. you're a muffin. dude i would TOTALLY host my own cable show (shhh...I don't own a TV...I'm more of a lit&sonic brat...but still). Thanks for the constant encouragement. 28. WordPainter says Tom Morello is the freakin MAN. If there were only 1,000 more of him the music industry...Great Interview Pixie. I love the sendoff: "the chords and the truth can serve a higher purpose"

  29. indiepixie says wordpainter- great avatar.. Thanks for the props folks... Feel free to pass this around to friends...facebook spread or whatever...I want as many ppl seeing THIS and attending their shows and feeling inspired. If there's one thing I got from him, he's not kidding about action. It's rare for musicians to devote so much time and energy to good causes, to try to change our F*ed up world rather than sit back and just riff, and endorse bottom-up action. Change starts from here...from us :) not to lecture. But he's a great freakin role model. now go grab a shovel. :)

  30. dharmachris says Awesome interview! OK, what do we gotta do to get you a 2nd microphone? ;-) We saw him a few years ago when the Nightwatchmen, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, and some others were doing a similar type of tour. Definitely quieter than with RATM, but decent nonetheless.
