New Exclusive Accelerate Video Interview (Part Two): R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe Talks About His Dreamworld

Posted about 1 year ago
Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of Mr. Stipe? Well I've got another clip here from the interview with Michael Stipe during SXSW where Michael Stipe talks about his dreamworld and the song "Sing For The Submarine." Since Accelerate was just released April 1st, it's pretty interesting insight.{PLEASE LINK TO FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO}The beginning of the interview, Michael's eye kinda drift off to the side. What you can't see is he was staring out the window of his hotel room into the muddy river below. It was a rainy day and somehow that gaze got Michael rambling and reflecting- anecdotally about his dreamworld that's a bit of Madmax, Children of Men, a bit of post-cataclysmic NYC....etc..and nothing short of....Brilliant. I shut my trap and we just let the camera roll; he responded delicately and candidly. Whether you are a fan or not, you'll enjoy this glimpse behind an icon: P.S. After watching this clip I'd bet Michael probably had something to do w. that poignant yet cheeky "Accelerate"album release date of April 1st, huh?

  6. Torch says I'm sorry - I have no excuse as to why I still don't have my grubby little hands on the new album yet. Actually, those hands are typing this while the rest of me is on the way to the store...

  7. Launce says Being an olds, I can still remember vividly the first flush of "that-is-fucking-genius" feeling that I heard on Murmur and the Chronic Town EP. REM over the last three decades - Geebus, can it be that long? - has consistently issued some of the best, sweetest, saddest, and occasionally hip-groovin' sounds out there. Which is absolutely amazing for a ROCK band of that age. I've seen the band three or four times live and they have consistently, again, provided great shows. (I have frens who allege that they have seen the band play tired, but I may just have been lucky.) The venues that REM plays are often these old, magnificent theaters and such, perfect for the kind of smarty-pants atmospherics that they virtually engineered. I've just been streaming it on line so far, but Accelerate seems to be at least as good as 2001's Reveal, which I honestly thought was very, very good; another good chapter in a long, rewarding book.
