WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Backstage: Perry Farrell Chats With Lou Reed (Part1); with Cameo of Seymour Stein

Posted about 1 year ago
Ahhh, as promised, here's a longer clip of the historic first meeting between Lou Reed and Perry Farrell, backstage at SXSW's Convention Center. This longer clip has an intimate backstage, 'Andy Warhol' video interview feel, where you fall into the cadence of the conversation.(IF YOU ARE READING THIS ON THE MOG HOME PAGE , PLEASE USE THE LINK BELOW TO GET TO THE FULL POST WHERE YOU CAN VIEW THE VIDEOS .)Topics? Lou talks about his friendship with Julian Schnabel, and choosing Brooklyn's St. Ann's as the set for the film.Priceless backstage moment? Seymour Stein, the biggest tastemaker in music (founder of SIRE records; signer of, (cough) Madonna, The Ramones, The Smiths...ring a bell?) popped into Lou's dressing room mid way to give Lou a quick hello. (Though our cameras were set on Lou and Perry, you can see he's the guy in the background in the blue shirt).Check it out: ps: We've got a some more in the editing wheel; all are pretty priceless. Will post more in a bit.

  3. indiepixie says isn't the pict pretty cute? I like how they have a different unique expression each of them. As for the footage, I think it's so classic to have the two of them just llllllaaaaiiid back.

  4. Sturgell says The pic is super cute... hehe. It's crazy how Ferrell sort of puckers up, even he is a little star struck!

  5. Truth says The Velvet Underground and Janes Addiction are 2 of my favorite bands of all times and I consider both of these guys to be visionaries. So here's what Im hoping is coming up in some of these outtakes. Lou asks Perry what the hell he was thinking when he did that awful ABC college football promoo with 50 cent and Kelly Rowand. If you don't know what Im talking about, chec this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWraQ0lZKro

  6. Mike the Knife says Tres kewl. Lou and Perry are fer real. But I've got to throw in that, track record aside, Seymour can be a major a-hole. Then again, I guess that's par for the course with record company execs.

  7. indiepixie says Truth- Wow- I had no idea he did a college football promo. how funny. I guess that's why you're called truth. Mikey- I don't know Seymour personally, clearly, but hey, a legend is a legend. A record exec is a record exec. He was quite funny and sweet to Lou, but then again, who wouldn't be? hehe IP

  8. Truth says consider yourself lucky you never saw that promo. My wife is a huge college football fan. One fall evening...there was Perry signing on ABC just as the second half was about to start. I sometimes wake up with cold sweats worrying that one day Perry is going to reconvene Jane's Addiction to play two shows a night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

  10. CapnBozo2 says Two of my favorites together... Pretty cool. Lou is such a character. He's looking rather elderly these days.

  11. CapnBozo2 says I forgot to mention. My real name is William Schnabel (from New Jersey). Julian is a second cousin or something.
