WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Noise Pop Festival! San Francisco!

Posted about 1 year ago
Noise Pop is a festival thrown in San Francisco....that starts this Wednesday until Sunday. While everyone bites their teeth for SXSW, San Fran welcomes a niche pick of indie bands like Magnetic Fields, M. Ward, Blitzentrapper, and British Sea Power, to various venues...I've never been but thought I'd check it out this year....Some bands I am looking forward to?Blitzen Trapper is southern rock greatness- with a bit of Oregon hippie vibe.Port O'Brien- is a collective whose lead singer spends the summer in Alaska on a fishing boat. The music is therefore salt-tinged and swelling- a bit melancholic, a bit introspective... MSTRKRFT - with LA Riots- since I saw the duo at last yrs Coachella, I've been awaiting a second night of dancing till daylight :)M Ward with Zooey Deschanel: M. Ward has got a mollasses and sand-paper rasp- and the gift of incredible lyrical and sonic genius- one of the best singer/songwriters out there (reminiscent of Elliot Smith with a bit more tar under his breath)...Zooey- the actress? Don't know much about her but I trust M Ward's taste and love her films...They're debuting at this festival...called She & Him I believe. Should be cool. The list goes on...but check out: http://www.noisepop.com/2008for more info...If you are in San Fran, give me a holler. I'm going to be shooting and doing a few interviews... anyone else going? cheers,Indiepixie- with flowers in her hair

  2. indiepixie says tuneskis. great work sam. i dig the shot! Glad you caught them; they seem like a great group of folks. I have major respect for starving fishing artists. :) will give you the scope when i get it. will also troll for that She and Him track.

  3. 1234chainsaw says I had to make some tough choices. The Gutter Twins won out over British Sea Power, however much I like the latter. Can't make it to any shows during the week, but I'll be coming in to the city the previous night, on 29th, to see A Place To Bury Strangers and Holy Fuck, stay overnight, and then hit The Gutter Twins on the 1st.

  5. 1234chainsaw says What site? The band's own site, Bottom of the Hill site, and Noisepop site all still show Holy Fuck as playing. Anyway, it's APTBS that I care about. Maybe I'll try to find you at the venue. So you'll be with a camera -- and with hair of what color?

  6. indiepixie says haha oops ur right. I am a crackhead. Veil Veil Vanish are one of the openers. Hey, do you know if any of the bands (asides from the Walkmen) are worthy of checking out? having heard of any of them. hehe- the pink hair was a stage I went thru. I am sporting long brown hair these days. And yes, will have camera in hand. Def try to find me :)

  7. 1234chainsaw says If your Thursday night is open, and you can't get to see Magnetic Fields, I'd go to GAMH to see Stellastarr*, Throw Me The Statue, etc.
