Hola. Sorry for the long silence; since my last post- Mog has changed and I like; My photos download faster and I've got Rhapsody so all's well in this mogger's universe. However, for those of you that don't, I hope you still play and heart your mog friends regardless :) What would the world be without change? Show a little love.++++++++++++++++++++++Meanwhile, where in the world was I when this happened? In Miami covering Art Basel. 4 drunken days of blurred vision and parties in the name of Deitch, MOCA, Versace, Conde, and all those other one names associated (some mildly) to "A-R-T-E" in flamingo pink. Good news is art and music are natural lovers. So, Basel provided the excuse for Iggy Pop to give a sweaty, leathery skin beach performance, while The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black got dirty onstage with Perez Hilton at the Raliegh. Hundreds amused themselves at an audio sound lounge, plus Graham Funke ripped it at Nada Art Fair's party. Also, at the Vizcaya Museum, a Venetian palace done up like a wedding cake with streamers and interactive art installations, a bizarre hard rock wedding cover band The Steve Chase Band performed naughtily in front of haughty, prissy billionairesses. But I didn't really give a damn. I've seen Iggy invite fans onstage twice now in 6 months, Karen's dominitrix bit doesn't disquise her voice; and who the hell is Steve Chase? But what I preferred immensely?
Japanther performing:
All fuses were dead by the time Flavorpill's Party with Japanther rolled around. Regardless, I think all of Brooklyn came down to watch the Brookyln skater duo beast. (I could tell by the lack of tans and wayfarers.) Now in case you don't know Flavorpill, it's a frenetic weekly ezine that debuts every Tuesday in London, Miami, NY, Chicago, LA and San Fran- listing the best indie action from film to music to art. And they throw killer parties. I used to work there; they rock; they have grown; I feel proud like a momma.
Spectators amongst art:
If you haven't heard of Japanther, get your head out of the clouds and turn the m&^@er f&@^!er volume up! Energy-crazed dance tunes- DJ mixed with live procussion; brilliantly laid-out, sickly addictive beats. Byron Coley and Thurston Moore described " using loose tapes of radio bronkerisms and stink-filled grooves, Japanther is a lean slim boogie machine with no time for boredom." And who argues with "stink-filled" as an adjective or Thurston Moore for that matter? hehe.More of my visual diary entry below:
The eerie light of darkness...
Japanther quoted : "Commerce is out to kill art and society is out to kill the artist." I felt sorry they felt that way. After all, the event was sponsored and well-paid for by Budweiser. hehe. Regardless, me and the jumping dude in pink sun hat and technicolor dreamcoat were there to celebrate art, commerce, and society - collaborating and feeding symbiotically off eachother- not slaughtering eachother. And plus, as an artist, when I feel society gets me down, I just turn up Japanther!? Oi Oi Oi .........Viva les artistes! (ps I will upload a song as soon as I figure out how).
