Burial - Untrue (the whole thing)

Posted about 4 years ago
What it brings to mind is that movie Dark City - rainy, cold, and wet, but cool (if you thought Dark City was cool). Like Dark City, it works consistently within its own existence, which is impressive in that Burial has developed his/her (I think his?) own grungy warm club sound. There's not a ton of variation, but the songs do something so particular and evoke such a strong, dark, sound it begs a movie be made *just for it*. If you're writing a existential hip-hop film-noir heartbreak story, this is your soundtrack.

The track I chose, Ghost Hardware, isn't my favorite on the album, and the vocals are (I think intentionally) a little off-putting at points, but the deep weird throng of the bass pulsing through keeps it interesting.

Points of reference: Lamb meets Roni Size in a rainy alley.

  4. indieguy311 says Could be - but some of their stuff does sound similar. I found this as I looked around about his earlier album: "But, Burial’s love of rain is an intriguing one- it always startled me how early junglist tunes like Roni Size’s ‘Music Box’ and Gerald’s ‘Finlay’s Rainbow’ piled on so much rhythm that they literally sounded like it was raining."
