soooo why not.......

Posted almost 4 years ago

havent been on MOG all that long just kind of browsing and trying to get aquainted. I figured ok why not go ahead and post something, ANYTHING lol

my love for music isnt exactly a love for MUSIC, I confess I am very particular about who and what I listen to, I would love to say.... yeah I love all kinds of music but the truth is I dont.

I have no desire to listen to the whiney crying of country, no desire to tolerate the tantrums and echoes of techno, no real interest in emo, punk, and JUST barely these days tolerate hip hop (GASP! did I just type that????)

now dont get me wrong, I do believe there is an artistic value, beauty if you will in all music, I just dont happen to want to be bothered with it anymore. the odd thing is I am an 80's child where all we did was listen to everyone and everything, Grew up loving Duran Duran, New Edition, Run DMC, Depeche Mode, Prince, the Cars, etc. you get my point...

Perhaps its just age (I'll keep that to myself for now) or perhaps its the state of music today, half the time I cant even figure out what in the world they are talking about...... in a time when songs have lyrics like "girls dont boys they like cars and money" or "superman that hoe" REALLY? lol I'm not sure if its meant to be fun or its a true reflection on our young people.

I have fallen in love all over again with R&B, Gospel and a special new found love in Neo Soul, a sprinkle of hip hop and some pop every now and then and Im content. People like Maxwell (come on already its time for that CD to finally drop) Jill Scott, Common, amel larrieux, the Roots, Dwele, Anthony Hamilton, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, Stevie Wonder, the temptations, Alicia Keys, MeShell, all fill my spirit with hope, love and joy. reminding me life evolves and loves change.........

so yeah I guess I'm getting old......... and with my birthday next week I am reminded more and more that I too have evolved like music has. for all my strenghts and weaknesses Music has the same type of life span. so I can accept and appreciate all forms of music even if I dont take pleasure in it.

so cheers to music, all kinds, if you sing, write or play anything My hats off to you, celebrate anyway you can!

Peace and Blessings

Musical taste evolves over time, as one appreciates nuance over electronic efx along with songs that don't need to be sctreamed out to be heard/understood. The music that sounded safe and pedestrian when you were young is revealed to have depth and insight. Rather than curse the number of candles on your birthday cake, consider that you've turned another page in the song book of your life and know something that teens don't know...yet.

lol no my dear I do not curse the number of candles on my cake, I am totally ok with them, I cherish each and every horrible and each and every wonderful year of my life. I am simply pointing out that somethings you just look up and feel like wow, I really am getting old lol. Music has changed, I have changed its the true nature of life

and hip hop, wow back in the early days it was amazing and it tied us all together, it did all it needed to do for the time. Im saddened by some of the current state of it. but thats no real surprise, most folks not just old folks feel somewhat the same too.

This would be a guess, but I don't think there are many MOG users who fall under say... 25 years.  I could be wrong; they could be out there posting away, but the people I've interacted with (even if they are 24 and under) have a developed, loving, respectful (mature) love for music.

I find it kinda interesting that you said "it tied us all together".  Now we have semi-factions in Hip Hop that make sure you know; if you ain't with us, you're against us.  Look at how the industry played on the hardly existent East Coast/West Coast thing.  Is it really a crime to be a 50 fan and still love Fat Joe?  Can't you love Lil Jon & A Tribe Called Quest?  Is it possible to consider Soulja Boy and Mos Def as equals? (NO! Definitely not!)

My point is that contraversy in Hip Hop (at least now) seems to create more interest than solidarity.  Everybody loves a good rap beef; people even try to start beefs for popularity or whatever.  It just seems like a waste of talent, time, and energy.

    Let's see if this works:

thats ok, I appreciate your efforts 8-)

you know I never thought of it like that, it never occured to me that the change in the true nature of it came when the beefs realllly flared up, that beef became the selling point.

the ties that bind became the lines that divide......

Guess I'll be content for now rolling with Stevie, Chaka, Alicia and the likes, hoping and praying something good this way comes...
