Can anyone venture a guess as to how MOG makes recommendations? It seems to me they are pulled out of thin air. They appear to be nothing more than a list of recently played tracks by some random MOG users.
Case in point: the #1 recommendation for me was some user with 9 crappy Matchbox Twenty tracks. Nothing in my MOG playback history comes anywhere close to Matchbox Twenty.
So, how are the recommendations supposed to work? I'll cut MOG some slack as this is a new feature and it can only get better (I hope).
ahhh....I updated my media player (J.River Media Center) to the newest version and now Mog-o-matic stopped working. Sooo...I'm just waiting for a new version of Mog-o-matic to get things back to normal. Waiting sucks.
For the time being, I'm 100% logging my music at lastFM: http://www.last.fm/user/iCamp

The best way to address issues like this is to contact adam (rock or death) at the MOG Forums. Click the button at the bottom of the page.
Crap...I guess I forgot to mention that I did contact Rock or Death. He identified the issue with the new version of J.River and the next version of Mog-o-matic should work fine. I'm just in the waiting stage for the new version to be released. I guess they have more important bug fixes than this minor issue. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think the mog brain picks the person by somehow comparing the music you have in your libraries. But then the songs that it shows are just the ones the person last played, not necessarily what they think you will like.
I think you're right. There is a good deal of potential at MOG for a working recommendation method. This just isn't it.
Hi there. Just giving you some insight into how we are doing recommendations. First of all, MOG will never give you direct recommendations by trying to calculate music that we think you will like - we do not believe in those types of computerized "recommendation engines". The recommendations on our Recommendations page are coming from other moggers based on what they are listening to.
You can use the settings in the left sidebar to select what recommendations to display and also who you want them to come from. If you are viewing recommendations from "Featured MOGs" then you are seeing what some of the most popular moggers are listening to. If you are viewing recommendations from "My Trusted MOGs" then you are seeing what your own Trusted MOGs are listening to. If you are viewing recommendations from "The Magic Button" then you are seeing the top songs/albums from the moggers who most closely match you based on similarity of your collections and what you have been listening to.
