Okay, I'm a good 5 years behind the curve here, but in a state of desperate boredom with every album we own, and even every genre, I'm trying to explore new "types" of music. But I'm a hideous snob, totally require music to be intelligent both musically and lyrically. Someone (very wise) suggested that I give the Andre 3000 album, The Love Below, a try.... and I'm hooked. I think it's brilliant - BRILLIANT ! It manipulates and expands all sorts of musical genres, is thoughtful, intelligent, funny, engaging and everything else. Yes, Hey Yah is great..... but it is, in many ways, the least that the album has to offer..... (But is, for sure, the catchiest single in an album that should be listened to as an album!) SO - what else should I try?

Black Star. Mos Def and Talib apart are nuts, but together? Asylum-type shyte. Also, De La Soul.

Artist: Album: Putting the days to bed Track: Hindsight

I can't get enough of the new album from The Long Winters. Seriously, there aren't enough hours in the day, my errands don't take long enough, not enough time to listen to it. Especially Hindsight, which I think I may have listened to 100 times in the last 48 hours. Just guessing.

You know, I just heard a song from The Long Winters on the radio last night, and I made a note of it. They sounded really good, so I'll definitely check them out.

Okay - I'm new here, and my motives are truly altruistic-ish. I am one of those people who, were it not for a fabulous husband, would still be listening to the Smiths and Echo, things that defined my mis-spent youth. My husband, however, lives and breathes music. That and bikes (and me and our daughter) are all he thinks about. And I'd like to be able to surprise him sometimes.

He is the kind of guy who - back in the day of CD changers - would change all the CD's in my car so that I would hear new tunes that I'd love.... no, it's not passive aggressive, it's sweet. Really sweet. And he's always been right.

So I've uploaded the iTunes thing in the hopes that I can follow trails to new bands. If it shows heavy plays on really cheezy 80's pop music and Avril Levigne, that's our daughter. We pretty much just load things into the pods and listen to those....

My current fave is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but there are others..... that's the start. Let's see what happens.
