    Story Of Issac
"When I would go away to camp, the counselors would say,'Oh, your name is Suzanne, like the song'.I never heard it until about five years later.Leonard Cohen is a man who's not afraid to be obsessed in public. Most people try to put on a normal face for the world.Leonard Cohen doesn't bother with that.I listened to him for a whole year straightwhen I was sixteen and seventeen, alone in my room. He was my best friend then." - Suzanne Vega

  2. Bartleby says Moving as always with Ms Vega. The funny thing with Leonard Cohen is that I find that more often than not I prefer the covers of his songs by other artists and that somehow I'm disappointed when I hear his renditions. It happened recently with "Dance Me To The End of Love" covered by Madeleine Peyroux for exampled. (All right, I need to see a therapist)

  4. capndad says I used to listen to him many, many years ago when I thought he expressed better than anyone the screwed up, depressing, maudlin perspective that, for some reason, I enjoyed internalizing. Then my best friend had an affair with my wife, we divorced, I turned to drugs and alcohol, and nearly went insane. I'm ok now thanks to a lady who brought positive perspectives and belief into my life. (I married her) So me and Leonard have parted ways. Not that it was his fault, but because his songs were such an integral part of my philosophy back then, and some memories are best left in the vault.

  5. kristiana says Interesting how often one hears that sorta perspective from the married, capndad - that is, the "better not to go there"... You're right. It's not his fault. He just is what he is. Always torn between 2 worlds - it's a blessing and a curse. Nice post, lovely music. Thanks. The covers are nice, but man, Leonard stands on his own. No question. Here's one of my favorite performances of his I've seen so far...
