WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Coheed and Cambria : The Final Cut

Posted over 2 years ago
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's very light on verse. It only lasts about a minute or two, but in those two minutes you are immersed in the contempt the writer feels for "Erica". The jilted lover laments her departure as she left him by the roadside as "the bloodiest cadaver". However, if he had his way, he'd crush her face in the door. The writer goes from spurned lover to the voice of vengeance in two short verses and explodes in a scathing duel of guitar titans. Claudio and Travis trade riffs back and forth in pleading and rolling phrases. The solos shoot back and forth in a silky-smooth dance that's reminiscent of a quarrel between lovers. Perfectly fitting for the song.At times the solos sound like some of the greats like Page or Gilmour could have walked into the studio and laid them down themselves. At 6 mins, the song winds down to a gorgeous after-glow style outro. This song really shines when you see it live. Claudio and Travis take the duel to new heights, sometimes jamming this one as long as 15 minutes. I dont think some of their younger fans really dig the jam-band aspect, but us geezers (haha) love it. Every time I've seen Coheed (3 times) this song has been the closer and has been simply incredible. It's an emotional roller-coaster all the way and definitely not one to be missed.
