You can't tell that September has come and gone in Austin, TX, but you can dream about what cold weather must be like. To assist me in doing this is the music channeling through my ears. I'm breaking out old fall favourites like Arab Strap and The Mountain Goats as well as heading out to see other brilliant autumnal acts. Yesterday, I steered myself south of the river to check out Richard Buckner's instore at End of an Ear Records. Honestly, it was one of the best instore performances I have ever witnessed. Instead of barking on about how everyone should come to his show at Emo's later in the evening, Buckner substituted idle chit chat for fuzz filled guitar interludes. The real treat, of course, were the songs in between. Buckner's whispered vocals tripped over intricate melodies and loud and soft guitar dynamics. In a feeling: that quiet day in the fall when you see the first red leaf drop. Of course, that won't come until at least Thanksgiving in Texas.

Richard Buckner is sorta my hero, I picked up Dents and Shells a while back on a whim, and I've been yelling at my friends for calling him country ever since ;)
