Artist:
As of today, it is officially less than two weeks until the end of my summer. Thus, I am forced to look back on how it has progressed, especially in the musical realm. Each summer, two artists emerge as definitive for the era. Let's review past defining artists:2003 - Something Corporate and The Starting Line2004 - Braid (and related projects) and My Chemical Romance2005 - Elliott Smith and The Academy Is...Each summer, the first of those artists goes on to become my favourite and the second often fades into the obscured corners of my musical awareness. Last summer's artists deviated from the path slightly as Elliott exceeded the title of favourite and has become the dominant voice of my musical world and The Academy Is... became the voice of an entire era of my life and remain good friends. However, it's the end of the summer and it's time for me to realize that once again this pattern as repeated. My assessment has revealed the following:2006 - Radiohead (and related projects) and The Libertines (and related projects)Both must have the "(and related projects)" comment as Thom Yorke's solo album and ex-Libertine Carl Barât's new band Dirty Pretty Things have shaped my summer as much as Radiohead or The Libertines themselves. So summer 2006, it's been a good one. And, apparently, a very British one as well.
