What are the minimum system requirements for MOG-O-MATIC?
The minimum system requirements are:
  • PC running Windows XP or 2000 (Windows 98 and ME are not supported)
  • Latest Windows service packs recommended.
  • 10 MB available hard disk space for every 6,000 tracks in your collection
Is MOG-O-MATIC spyware?
NO!!! MOG-O-MATIC does only what you want it to do – it tracks what music you have on your computer and what songs you play on your computer and iPod, and it sends the data to MOG to populate the widgets on your MOG page. If you don’t want it to do this, you should not use MOG-O-MATIC.
Will MOG-O-MATIC do anything weird to my computer?
No – MOG-O-MATIC will not install anything harmful to your computer.
How do I know MOG-O-MATIC is running?
MOG-O-MATIC is programmed to launch and run in “hidden” mode when you start Windows so it should always be running unless you manually shut it down. When MOG-O-MATIC is running in “hidden” mode, you should see the brown and orange MOG-O-MATIC icon in your system tray at the bottom right of your desktop.
How long will it take for MOG-O-MATIC to add my music collection to my MOG page?
This is entirely dependent on the size of your collection and the speed of your Internet connection! For people who have collections in the low thousands of songs and a high-speed connection, it can take less than an hour to scan and transmit your collection. For collections with 10,000 songs or more and slower connections speeds, it could take as long as 8 hours or more. The good news is that once you complete this initial “MOGification” of your collection, it is smooth sailing from there on.

NOTE: if you shut down your computer before MOGification is complete, it will continue the next time you start up your computer.
Will MOG-O-MATIC use up a lot of my computer’s horsepower?
During the initial “MOGification” phase when MOG-O-MATIC first scans, identifies and sends your tracks to MOG, the CPU usage should mostly stay at around 10-15% with short spikes up to as high as 50%. This phase may last up to several hours, depending on the size of your digital collection. However, after the initial indexing phase, MOG-O-MATIC just sits in the background, tracking what you play and MOGifying any new files or folders you may add to your Music Folder(s), using between 0 and 2% CPU with occasional spikes up to 10%.
How do I shut down MOG-O-MATIC?
Right-click the icon in the system tray and choose the option: Shutdown MOG-O-MATIC.
How do I access MOG-O-MATIC’s controls?
When MOG-O-MATIC is in “hidden” mode, you can still access its controls by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray. You can also double-click on the icon in the system tray to launch MOG-O-MATIC into “open” mode. In “open” mode, you can click between the three tabs – Login Info, Music Folders, and Activity Monitor – to access all of the controls.
How do I know MOG-O-MATIC is connected to MOG.com?
Go to MOG-O-MATIC’s Login Info tab and look at the Connection Status. If your connection is ever broken, MOG-O-MATIC will prompt you to enter your login email and password.
How do I tell MOG-O-MATIC where to look for my music?
Go to MOG-O-MATIC’s Music Folders tab. Your My Music folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Current User\My Documents\My Music) should already be listed by default. If your music is located in folders other than My Music, use the Add Folder button to browse for additional folders and add them to the Music Folders list. You will see the new folder appear in the list as soon as you click OK on the Browse window.

NOTE: any music tracks outside of the folder(s) in your Music Folders list will not be included in your Digital Collection and will not be tracked when you play them.
What file formats will MOG-O-MATIC recognize?
MOG-O-MATIC recognizes the following file formats:
  • .wav
  • .mp3
  • .m4a
  • .m4p
  • .wma (protected and unprotected)
How do I know if MOG-O-MATIC is finding my music and sending it to MOG.com?
Go to MOG-O-MATIC’s Activity Monitor tab. Work In Progress shows any activity that is currently in progress. Music collection shows the number of tracks found and the number of tracks MOGified, which means sent to MOG to be placed in your Digital Music Collection widget. Recent Events shows a history of events that MOG-O-MATIC has captured and sent to MOG.com, including tracks it has found, identified and sent, as well as play-counts for tracks you have played.
Which digital media players does MOG-O-MATIC track?

  • Windows Media Player
  • ITunes

Will MOG-O-MATIC track songs that I play using "iTunes Sharing" over a local network?
We are not yet able to support play tracking when you play music that is shared over a network using the iTunes Sharing feature.
Will MOG-O-MATIC track songs that are located in a Music Folder on a hard drive attached to a computer on my local network?
We are not officially supporting the use of Music Folders on networked hard drives. The files will get indexed and MOGified but plays of these files will not get tracked. Support for this is on our list of important features.
Can I use MOG-O-MATIC on more than one computer?
Sure - as long as both of your computers are either Macs or Windows PCs. We do not currently support running one MOG-O-MATIC on a Mac and another on a PC.
Will MOG-O-MATIC track songs in a Music Folder located on a hard drive mounted on another computer on my local network?
MOG-O-MATIC will MOGify files located on a networked hard drive. However, it will currently only track songs that you play if the computer that your networked drive is mounted on is running Windows.
Why don’t all of the tracks found get MOGified?
Files that can not be identified by Gracenote and have no additional tag data are not sent to MOG. These files will still be tracked for plays, and if they get updated with data in the future, will then be sent to MOG.
