NO!!! MOG-O-MATIC does only what you want it to do – it tracks what music you have on your computer and what songs you play on your computer and iPod, and it sends the data to MOG to populate the widgets on your MOG page. If you don’t want it to do this, you should not use MOG-O-MATIC.
MOG-O-MATIC is a Preference Pane and it will launch when you start up your computer so it should always be running unless you manually shut it down. You can check if MOG-O-MATIC is running by going to System Preferences.
Go to System Preferences; click the circular brown and orange MOG-O-MATIC icon to bring up the MOG-O-MATIC Preference Pane. Shut MOG-O-MATIC off by clicking “Off”.
Go to System Preferences and click on the circular brown and orange MOG-O-MATIC icon to bring up the MOG-O-MATIC Preference Pane. Turn MOG-O-MATIC on by clicking “On.
This is entirely dependent on the size of your collection and the speed of your Internet connection!
For people who have collections in the low thousands of songs and a high-speed connection, it can take less than an hour to scan and transmit your collection. For collections with 10,000 songs or more and slower connections speeds, it could take as long as 8 hours or more. The good news is that once you complete this initial “MOGification” of your collection, it is smooth sailing from there on.
During the initial “MOGification” phase when MOG-O-MATIC first scans, identifies and sends your tracks to MOG, the CPU usage should mostly stay at around 10-15% with short spikes up to as high as 50%.
This phase may last up to several hours, depending on the size of your digital collection. However, after the initial indexing phase, MOG-O-MATIC just sits in the background, tracking what you play and MOGifying any new files or folders you may add to your Music Folder(s), using between 0 and 2% CPU with occasional spikes up to 10%.
When MOG-O-MATIC is running, go to System Preferences and the MOG-O-MATIC Preference Pane should appear. You can click between the three tabs – Login Info, Music Folders, and Activity Monitor – to access all of the controls.
Go to MOG-O-MATIC’s Login Info tab and look at the Connection Status. If your connection is ever broken, MOG-O-MATIC will prompt you to enter your login email and password.
Go to MOG-O-MATIC’s Music Folders tab. Your Music folder (Users\[username]\Music) should already be listed by default. If your music is located in folders other than your Music folder, use the Add button to browse for additional folders and add them to the Music Folders list. You will see the new folder appear in the list as soon as you click Open on the Browse window.
NOTE: MOG-O-MATIC will also automatically index all of the tracks in your iTunes library, whether they are located in your Music Folder(s) or not.
MOG-O-MATIC recognizes the following file formats:
.mp3, .m4a, .m4p and any other file format you can play with iTunes (i.e. if you can play a file in iTunes, this means you have the codec, and MOG-O-MATIC will recognize it).
Yes – as long as you sync your iPod with iTunes, MOG-O-MATIC will capture the play-counts from your iPod and they will be factored into the calculations for your Top Songs/Albums/Artists widgets. To make sure iTunes is set up to sync your iPod, connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, go to Edit - Preferences - iPod - Music. Make sure that one of these two options is selected:
Automatically update all songs and playlists
Automatically update selected playlists only
Please note: before selecting one of these options, make sure you understand how it will change the way you transfer songs from iTunes to your iPod.
Sure - as long as both of your computers are either Macs or Windows PCs. We do not currently support running one MOG-O-MATIC on a Mac and another on a PC.
Files that can not be identified by Gracenote and have no additional tag data are not sent to MOG. These files will still be tracked for plays, and if they get updated with data in the future, will then be sent to MOG.
