My friends brother did something that got me to thinking. He does that...
He was quite critical of "The English Beat" who I saw in Marquette, MI last Saturday. He said that they didn't have a lot of energy.
I thought they were amazing. Really really tight. I could have bounced quarters off of them. People who had NO idea who they were were just going bonkers. I thought the pacing was just great. I was really floored. I really didn't expect much. What an awsome party/dance band!
Either I am a desparate rural lame-o or I have noticed this sort of a lot. People with performance experience view performance through a different lense than people who haven't gotten up there as much. Because I have seen things that I have thought sucked mightily that others thought were good. I notice different things that they do. It's kind of funny that my hunsband and I almost always agree.
I even will love on bands I hate if they are great live. I saw Rush live and they were really amazing live. That being said, Getty Lee's voice still makes me want to slit my wrists. But they achieved what they set out to do artistically. And that must be given props.
Or maybe Rich was just being a crab-ass :) Yeah. That was probably it.

I've seen Rush several times. It's hard to imagine, but they always sound better in concert. I'm not sure how they do it, it's hard to imagine them sounding better than in the studio.
