I really jumped the gun with my opinion on the Saosin LP. my inital reaction was "this is no where as good as the EP". the song "Seven Years" has always been my favorite (thanks to my friend Adam), and so part of me expected that for this entire album.but after listening to it a number of times at work, I have to say, it's really grown on me. there is actually a bit more maturity in their songwriting, as compared to the EP. and I am a bit of a sucker for the 'one-song-bleeds-into-another' thing (is there a technical name for that? is it just crossfade?) I was listening to it in my car on the way home from work tonight and it got me thinking. is this band just the same as all the others? I guess I don't listen to a lot of bands in this genre. usually I stumble across them because of a friend or because of work. sometimes I like them (Saosin, Thrice, Matchbook Romance), sometimes I don't (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Panic! At the Disco, Hawthorne Heights). I guess it doesn't really matter as long as I like it. because that's all that matters. I have always been of the opinion that if music makes you happy, then it's good. even if it's not popular, even if it's hated by the critics, even if it's over-played. music is purely emotional to me. it is woven into every aspect of my life, and therefore my emotions reguarding every aspect of my life. and all that matters is how it makes me feel. but I have had that argued with me before. people that say "some music is just bad", and they are viewing it from a technical aspect. that a song can be written poorly or incorrectly, or performed poorly, and therefore it is simply bad music. I just find it really hard to look at music this way. something that can be bad is writing. and this was. this was written really poorly and mostly just as a train of thought but I' m not even going to go through and read this again because clearly I am either sleeping too much or not enough.
