WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

To win you more than just a friend

Posted about 1 year ago

This song came on while I had my iTunes on shuffle this evening. It got me thinking. When I was a kid watching reruns of The Monkees on TV and listening to their music, Mike Nesmith was my least favorite Monkee. Now he's my favorite.

That is all.

I know!  The thing that scares me is that whenever Tim and I catch a rerun, I still remember a lot about the episodes.  Scary!

Nesmith channeling some Roger McGuinn/Byrds there?  In any case - great song.

His first three post-Monkees records are wonderful. (Possibly the start of alt.country?) Parts of 'Head' remain really good as well - particularly the part in the commisary when it stops being a 'movie' and becomes a debate on what the role requires.

we busted out some monkeys records this weekend.  i always laugh when i read the album credits and see that davy jones lists maraccas and tambourine as his instruments.  as a kid i was a peter tork fan, but this clip may change that.  the guy looks like he needs some itch cream here.  great song.  andrea, i think nesmith's knit cap may be swaying your vote here!  :)

Nesmith was the aloof, introspective one.  The Lennon of the group.  Me, I've always liked him 'cause his mom invented Liquid Paper.

Yep, for that reason alone he should be well set for life.
