WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The soundtrack of my commute

Posted over 3 years ago
I always love that moment on my commute to/from work when the song that comes on my iPod just perfectly fits the moment. It was as if some film director planned it out or something. I can't pinpoint what makes a good commute song. There are many factors involved including my mood, the weather, and the vibe in the train/bus. Often times songs by Blur, Pulp, Supertramp, and The Monkees seem to work well for me.Todays excellent commute song is by the latter artist. There are some of you moggers out there who know how much I love this song. Okay, okay, I know that some of you are probably thinking, "hahaha she likes the Monkees what a loser!!!" But this song is really good. If your knowledge of the Monkees pretty much begins and ends with "Daydream Believer" and "I'm a Believer" (what is it with the believer crap?), you should hear this song, because it's very different. According to the All Music Guide, this song was written by Mike Nesmith, so I guess it truly is one of their songs and wasn't written for them.

  2. gympumpkin says That is an awesome song. Perhaps I will have to make sure that one comes on my iPod on my commute home today! Songs on this morning's commute include "Daily Nightly", "Cuddley Toy", "What Am I Doing Hangin' Round", and "Door Into Summer".

  3. bubb says Don Kirshner from Kirshners show 'Rock Concert' was the the man behind the scenes for the 'Monkees'. He basically called all the shots until they showed him the door. The Monkees were cool!

  4. amelia says If it's any consolation, all of the people I know who are musical scholars think the Monkees were given a bad rap. [Then again, all the people I know who are musical scholars are Deadhead musicologists, so I suppose there's some room for disagreement there...]

  7. The Great Machine says Head is awesome. The soundtrack is probably my all time favorite Monkees album. Porpoise Song, Ditty Diego-War Chant, Can You Dig It?, As We Go Along...all great songs. Of course, this one kicks ass, too.
