THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

I'm back

Posted over 2 years ago
I just got back from Indiana. My mom and I drove down on Sunday morning, and I just got back. I got to seem some cousins and family I haven't seen in years. I got to meet my cousin's children. That part was nice. Unfortunately we were all there for my aunt's funeral. We are all looking forward to my cousin's wedding next year so that we can see each other under nicer circumstances. My mom doesn't like music much, and definitely doesn't like a lot of what I listen to. Since I re-loaded my iPod the other day I realized that I had no music on it that she would like. We talked in the car on the way there and back, but played no music. That's right, folks, 2.5 days with no music except that quiet, soothing music they play at funeral homes and the hymns at the church during the funeral. What do you think would be the first song you would want to hear if you haven't listened to music in a few days? I was really shocked by what I was craving. I figured I'd want to hear some Beatles, or the Crash, or something else I've been digging a lot lately. Instead, all I wanted to hear was Snow Patrol. I love Snow Patrol, but it was odd, let me tell you.

  2. fistula spume says Yeah what Dale said. I don't think I could do it. I just couldn't. My mom loves ABBA so there would be a lot of that. I think I would just have to play the first thing in my iPod when I got back. There would be serious withdrawls.

  4. gympumpkin says Thanks guys! Sam - There is some music my mom likes that I like too, but I feel like sometimes it means that neither one of us is listening to what we want. It's much easier for me to bend, since I have broader taste and can at least tolerate what she likes. The problem is when I'm really not in the mood for what she likes. So we just talked instead :)

  5. fistula spume says I know how that feels. My mom listens to country when it's not ABBA and I don't think I could handle either for 2 1/2 days. At least your home safe and sound.

  6. lucystarlite says i'm not sure i would know what to do with myself if i went 2.5 days without music. and i am sorry for the circumstances of the meeting up with family (happy for the next visit, though). as to snow patrol...i love them, too. they seem to be one of those bands/artists that sneak in to almost every mix i make lately, or at least are on the consideration list. and they are one of those bands that i have heard so many good things about...live show-wise...and i would love to see them play. glad to have you back, andrea. *hug*...and congrats on mogger of the week!!! lucy.

  10. gympumpkin says Thanks, everyone! Lucy - yeah, unless something else bad happens the next time my family gets together it will be for my cousin's wedding. Although my aunt, his mom, made a good point. Last night she said, "Isn't the next happy occasion you getting your doctorate? I would come out for that!" Funny that I didn't realize that before.

  11. tybees says I totally know what you mean about craving random music. A couple weeks ago, I had this incessant craving to hear "Bille Jean" while I was at work. I have no idea why, but once I got home I downloaded it and played it over and over again. Oh and big ups on being MOTW!!

  12. Shud33 says Funny that, that would be your group of choice..because for some reason. It is ALWAYS mine. I haven't figured out why..but Final Straw seems to be the c.d that never gets old. Glad your 2.5 day of no music is over. Welcome back!

  13. gympumpkin says Thanks. Of all the songs out there, I figured I would want to hear something else, I don't know. It worked, though! I blasted it in the car like 3 times on my way home :)
