There are some bands that you love right away. There are some bands that grow on you. Then, there are bands that you're mostly impartial to... ...or at least until you're idly shuffling your music and you hear that one track that you've happened to overlook time and time again. A track that grips you and takes you for a trip to the point that you have to sit still for a moment to ponder what you've been missing. Such is the case with Havalina. I knew they were on Tooth and Nail, so I figured it would be in my best interest to buy some of their music, since I'm an avid T&N fan. I'd also heard the song "I Feel Nothing" from their Space, Love, And Bullfighting album and really dug it. But the other night, while copying music to CD, "Porportion Thing" slipped through my ears and I was absolutely delighted. There's just something great about the simplicity of this song, something wonderful about the "storytelling" feel it's got going on. And best of all, I got to hear it in the middle of a late night alone. Want the song? It's available at Havalina's website, along with tons of other great tracks, and it's FREE.

maybe i don't know enough about tooth and nail or this band, but i'm surprised they're a tooth and nail band because i always associate them with MxPx....speaking of, are they still around? hmm

MxPx or Havalina? MxPx are still around, I believe. The just released a new album not too long ago called Secret Weapon, which I've read is a lot like their older stuff (a good thing.) As far as Havalina, I feel like I read somewhere that they broke up but I'm not sure...

Hopefully I'll actually update This.

As most of you know, Thursday was "singles depreciation" day. This did have some impact on SotW, naturally. Lots of the Smiths and R.E.M. However, I decided to claim two of my favorite artists as my valentines: Andrew Schwab(Project 86) and Buddy Holly.

Behold, Tracks of the Week.

"I Know It's Over" by The Smiths "The Hand, The Furnace, The Straight Face" by Project 86

"Raining In My Heart" by Buddy Holly
