WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

my SxSW story....

Posted about 1 year ago
I had a great time playing in Austin. Ahmad-Jamal (my drummer) and I played the yearly "Pirate Elvis Party". We all had eye patches, fried peanut butter banana sandwiches (i didn't venture this, but there was a line!) and elvis glasses. Kitsch is fun when not in excess....We were invited to play by Yarrr PR's Becki Carr. We like her the best!! There was a great 'vibe' at this cool reggae spot on 6th St., great people at this party, industry and civilians alike! (especially the kid from Chile, god I'm horrible w/names). Anyway, saw a gazillion bands. Here are the ones that stood out:Two GallantsWhite DenimCrystal AntlersMai ShiMinmaeModern StateRogue WaveHelio SequencePity PartyI saw a review of the festival in the LA Weekly (where I live) and it was embarassing. They spent more time on scoring weed from a homeless person than on the music. Lame. This year California bands seemed to shine, that made me proud.here's a quick mention we got in the Austin Weekly : http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid%3A602007It's a cool writer, Melanie Haupt, who takes us through day one of SXSW.
