WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Soledad Brothers on colder days

Posted over 2 years ago
While the outside air still finds ways to reach zero or below, and structures of various building materials creek, pop and moan, I thought I would turn to the Soledad Brothers to take me on a video trip through Detroit city while under baking sun.The Soledad Brothers, while mainstays during the rise of Detroit Garage to grunge-like proportions (ok, maybe just in the UK), are actually from Ohio, a minor technicality. The video itself is mostly shot in Detroit neighborhoods. The song itself is off of Voice of Treason, an excellent combination of garagey blues and skinny whiteboy gospel.

  1. kat3260 says Awesome dude. I have been in the bad pattern tonight of glazing over stuff I haven't heard of. I'm glad I decided to listen to this, though. These guys have that gritty, bluesy sound that I love, with a mix of what I can only describe as "UK-flavor." I'm shocked they're from the US actually, heh.

  3. Smooth Hegemon says It took moving all the way to Texas for me to fully appreciate Midwestern sensibilities. Thanks for reminding me how much the Great Lakes rule.

  4. gradys kitchen says Kat- glad to be of assistance. A few years back the area was crawling with like-minded bands trying to score a White Stripes-esque record deal. It was exciting but sadly flaming out and even Jack White now refers to Nashville as his hometown. We've still got Meg though and thats what really counts. Rk - good to hear that I catch on the same wavelength now and again. SH - you will soon realize that midwesterners actualy run the country. My scrap of proof ... turn on any local tv network and listen to how the news anchors speak. You might get a sportscaster or two with a regional drawl but for the most part, the people who the locals turn for 'credible' news, sound like they were born and raised in ... oh let's say, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
