WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I don't believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman

*_"All I wanna do is ... BICYCLE, BICYCLE, BICYCLE!"_*

Excitement is brewing, peeps ... my favorite month of the year is upon us: July. Why, you may ask, is July my favorite month? Well friends, I am an absolute nut for bike racing. I know, I know ... most of you have football, baseball, the WWF smackdown ... had I grown up in a family of sports nuts this might be the case for me. But as it is, one of my brothers was a drummer, and the other was a bike racer, so I grew up with music and cycling playing a big part in my free time fun. My favorite race occupies three weeks of July each year: The Tour de France. And it starts "*tomorrow*":http://www.versus.com/tdf/article/view/758/?ss=tv&tf=Body.tpl. Now, I know the sport has been under fire, what with doping allegations and debacles with prominent riders in recent years. I'm really hoping that this year will be less about scandal and more about racing, because it's a great sport that deserves more positive attention than it has been receiving. The 180 riders that participate in this gruelling 2,200 mile race are some of the best athletes in the world (and ladies, we're talking about some hot legs, here!) So if I'm not around much in the coming weeks, you know where I'll be ... in the meantime people, get away from your computer, and get on your bike and ride! Thanks to Freddie Mercury for concurring with me...

  3. RaG3aH0liC says I'd say I would have that mtn biker tan. Unfortunately we don't have quite the same riding on the east coast that you guys have out in the rockies. Have fun at the race tomorrow. The mountain I work at has already had its two races for the summer.....one downhill race and a cross country 40 miler.

  4. Dale says Not to mention the Speedo's, gack! Back to the main topic, here's to a clean yet competitive TdF. Tell us again Floyd, where did the dope come from? :P

  5. goodmusiconly says Hi RaG3! Unfortunately, I won't be _at_ the race (believe me I'd much prefer to be in France!), but I'll be watching it on --OLN-- Vs. At any rate, riding here is *great* ... there are over 700 miles worth of awesome singletrack about an hour and half from where I live. A group of friends and I get out to Moab every year too -- now _that_ is some un-flipping believable riding! Dale - ouch ... it's so sad to see. They haven't taken his title away yet, but it's unlikely he'll be exonerated (nor should he be, if he's guilty). One of my favorite riders has always been Alexandre Vinokourov ... I'll be rooting for him.

  6. Mike the Knife says Damn! I am Peter Pan; I'm always dealing with Frankenstein (or at least, his monster, as in Karl Rove and Bush); and I totally believe in Superman (a.k.a. Lance Armstrong).

  8. chucky says Is watching biking much different than watching say golf or nascar? Couldn't you just angle the tv towards the computer so that you could catch out of the corner of your eye if someone falls? I only say this because I care...;P

  10. Rawkkiddoh says Might I add that I have not missed a stage in 10 years. I love all the Tour stands for, and I cant think of a more impressive feat in sports.

  11. goodmusiconly says Mike - I reverse my statement, you have restored my faith in Peter Pan. :) Did you happen to catch "Olbermann":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCGaVrOzMn8 the other night? Ash - haha, _believe me_, I know where you're coming from ... IMHO golf, nascar, and televised bowling (gasp) all rank up there with watching water boil ... but cycling's a whole 'nother animal. It's a team sport and an individual one at the same time, which can make the dynamics of it hard to follow. I had the benefit of being indoctrinated into it while working at a racing mag for years, though, and alls I can say is I'm an addict ;P gerekriss - back atcha! kev - so I can safely assume you'll be up at the crack o' dawn watching the prologue with me? woot! I am preparing to become fully dorkified ;P

  14. Mike the Knife says Erin: Just watched the Keith clip. Oh man. Does he lay it down or what? I wonder what some of the dissembling, misinformed reactionary types here at MOG (and they're around) would say if they sat through - and understood - this damning commentary, rather than tuning it out, turning it off, or laughing it off.

  16. goodmusiconly says Mike, it was absolutely an Edward R. Murrow moment watching that live. All hail Keith! It had to be said, and I think everyone needs to see it... Neill, yeah that's a first. Pretty cool - wish I was there!
