WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

A New Week, A New Find

Posted over 2 years ago
I'm not much of a reviewer, but I know what I like when I hear it. Cortney Tidwell's voice has been compared to the likes of Hope Sandoval and Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins). In 2005 she toured as an opening act for Lou Barlow, and collaborated with members of Lambchop for a cut on her first full-length record _Don't Let the Stars Keep Us Tangled Up_. I stumbled upon "Eyes are at the Billions" whilst surfing around some indie record label sites and was quietly enjoying the folky simplicity of the song, when at about two minutes into it I nearly fell out of my chair in a fit of sonic bliss. I'm still digging my way into the rest of the album, but I am finding it to be diverse and lovely, and worthy of your attention. Take a listen and let me know what you think. You can also sample a few others on her "myspace page":http://www.myspace.com/cortneytidwell

  6. Treppenwitz says Thanks for introducing me to this. This is an exciting find! I'm going to contact her label because I think she would be a good candidate for an Indie Study piece.

  16. Treppenwitz says I've discovered that if you dig really deep on her label's site (http://everrecords.com under "whoever", "cortney tidwell", "releases", "tracklisting") that you can find a low bitrate stream of the entire album. The last minute of the track "Don't Let Stars Get Us Tangled Up" swells into an amazing tidal wave of sound. It comes out of nowhere and just gives me chills.

  17. Marigold says I was just tipped off on her a few days ago from someone. I had not gotten a chance to check her out and then stumbled onto her on your page. Wow is all I can say. On the video she had some crazy Bjork kind of vocal thing going on. I liked it and I am not big on Bjork. Anyways, thanks for the post. I shall investigate more. Have you heard the entire record yet? If so, what are your thoughts?
