Shoegaze Saturday (why not): By Air and by Sea

Posted about 1 year ago
It's a lazy Saturday around here; I don't have much to say but I noticed some artists missing from the mog annals and thought I'd fill in the gaps whilst playing some tunage for my fellow shoegeezers. First up are newcomers Fjord Rowboat from Toronto, who released their first full-length album in Autumn this last year. Considered part of the shoegaze genre, the band's sound doesn't emulate the style wholeheartedly, rather, draws from it by washing layers of reverb and shimmery guitars over upbeat indie rock. Saved The Compliments For Morning is a lovely little album cover, and the music contained within is a nice piece of work as well ... head over and stream the entire album "here":http://www.fjordrowboat.com/flash/.Air Formation come to us from UK's "Club AC30":http://www.clubac30.com/home.php label, and take their lead from the likes of Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Spacemen 3, and Flying Saucer Attack. Formed in 1998, the band has produced two EPs and three full-length albums. The third and latest, Daylight Storms, was released in February of 2007 and is filled with expansive, blissed-out atmospheric numbers with hushed vocals. The first track, "Cold Morning" sets the tone nicely for the rest of the album ... check it out in comments, along with another tune from 2002's Ends in Light.

Enjoy all, happy Saturday. :-)

  20. goodmusiconly says *Dar* good idea, atta girl! *Ray* I think I remember that name (vaguely) from the 80s, but at that point I was probably listening to a different chain -- the Jesus and Mary. ;) Glad you like! *Dale* If you must slave away, better to have good tunes to do it by. Hope you get a break soon! *Michael* Skygazing, yes, and thanks for giving me something more than my ceiling to look up at! "In Formation," that's my favorite too. *Scotfree* Good to hear you've been enjoying it, thanks for stopping in. :)

  24. goodmusiconly says *Michael* yes, but unfortunately there wouldn't be a lot of music purchasing going on if I had a habit for Jimmy Choo (oh, how I love a sweet shoe, but I have my priorities straight!). Nice e-high tops, btw. ;) *Colin* A satiated belly and ears on a Saturday a.m., what could be better? Same time, same place next weekend, be there or be square! *Helen* Happy Monday doll (ugh, isn't it Wednesday yet?). Glad you're liking the tunage; as always, nice to see your sunny face in here.
