MUSIC CHATTER AND MATTER

Objects May Be Closer Than They Appear

Posted about 1 year ago

Yes! It's another WIFLI Music Challenge! That's what, three in less than two weeks? Good grief, man, are you INSANE? If not, why are you typing this in the second person?

Anyway, the title of this post is tangentially related to the challenge itself, because it's a lyric by the same band. Totally different song, but it's what was coming across from their Myspace page when I started writing the post. So... there's that.

Now, this song... frankly, I have no idea where I got it. iTunes doesn't tag it as an SXSW track, so it's not from one of those Torrents. It's the only song I have in my collection from this band. So perhaps it just miraculously appeared in my iTunes library. Perhaps it's... dare I say it?... destiny. UPDATE: Apparently, this band was a showcasing artist at SXSW 2005, so that must be where this track came from. No idea why it's not tagged as such.

Well, wherever it came from, this particular lyric, and the voice that sings it, jumped out at me when I heard it. The rest of the music and lyrics are by turns dreamy, quirky and cynical. A stellar combination, to be sure.

The band has a website, but it's currently password protected. Their Myspace has little information. I think they are no longer making music, at least not together or under the same name. As far as I can tell, their last album was in '05 or '06. Pity. I always seem to find these artists after they've decided to move to Auckland and breed rutabagas.

Have at it, y'all. Even if you don't get the artist and song, a special non-existent prize will be given to anyone who correctly guesses the country this band is from.

Don't know this one, but I can bet my left elbow that the band is from Europe.
