A ticket has been issued to yummygatalover for exceeding the WIFLI Music Challenge track-identification speed limit. The track -- "Veins" by Charlotte Martin -- was identified in less than two hours, incontrovertible evidence that yummygatalover was thinking much too fast for a Sunday.
I've seen Charlotte Martin compared to Tori Amos, but the real comparison, for me, is Kate Bush (with maybe a little Suzanne Vega thrown in for this track, though that's probably just the metallic clang, which I associate with Vega's "Blood Makes Noise"). I missed this 2006 SXSW track until sometime in 2008 -- clearly I've not listened to the SXSW tracks enough.
In reading about Charlotte Martin, I found out that she is a former Miss Illinois Teen USA, which is 100% irrelevant to her music career, but is kind of cool. More interesting is that she has a degree in opera -- I didn't know those existed, but her voice reflects it.
I went back and found her Veins EP, which is where this track (not surprisingly) can be found. I haven't looked much into her more recent stuff, but I see she just released an EP of "almosts" called Orphans. She seems to be very busy with writing, producing, recording, and mommying, so more power to her. Enjoy!

Sheesh i woulda thought i'd get off with a warning the first time.
I was introduced to Charlotte's music a few years back because she was listed as an artist like....Guess.
Okay okay Rachael Yamagata....
I find your "real comparison" to Kate Bush far closer than anything else i've heard.
Nonetheless she certainly has a sound of her own and i was pleased to find out about her music.
Now because of this handy post i'm going home with a bookbag full of her history as well....thank you golux13.
