Rawkkiddoh has done it again! This time it was a real challenge, so I congratulate him on his perspicacity and ingenuity. Or his wild-ass lucky guessing. Whichever. His no-prize is on the way.
Many years ago, some friends and I "discovered" a tavern in Somerville (Massachusetts) that was just starting to do live music. We went in one night on a whim and found a slightly run-down neighborhood dive with cracked leatherette seats in the booths, a scattering of tables, dingy paneling and a handful of regulars -- older folks nursing their beers and wondering what the heck all these college types were doing in their haven. For our part, we grabbed some beers and sat at a couple of tables and wondered if this was going to be worth it. Then a cajun/zydeco band called Boogaloo Swamis came out and within minutes, the place was jumping. Everybody was up and dancing, the floorboards were shaking... it was excellent. We went back many times over the next several months and years, always finding great rockabilly, zydeco, blues and rock'n'roll music.
I get the same feeling from this track as I did that night. This is good old roadhouse rock 'n' roll. It's not meant for an arena performance in front of crowds who've overpaid for the right to stand a half mile away from the band waving lighters in the air. This is meant for a hot, smoky tavern with a tiny stage for the band and an even tinier open space for people to get up and dance with beers in their hands, shouting along with the chorus and generally having a raucous good time.
Now I want to go out and find that place. Who's with me?
