WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

london calling

Posted over 2 years ago
and my final post until i return from my travel overseas... sometimes you save the best for last. i heard about M.I.A. in passing now and then, but a few days ago that b*tch came up and slapped me hard across the face (in case that didn't come across, that was sarcasm at its best). galang has been on heavy rotation lately, and who can blame me? it's one of the most original, creative, and catchy things i've heard in a long, long time. this hottie's had a very tumultous upbringing, and the word interesting wouldn't even begin to describe her sound. still debating if she's the real deal or just a one-hit wonder (and wassup with all the spray paint?)...but in either case, this song is does it for me right now. get angry maya~it's appropriate and fitting for me right now too because i'm going on a very overdue vacation to london next week. i can't wait... i've never been there before, so if anybody has any music venue suggestions to check out, please feel free share your recommendations before tuesday. it will be most appreciated. :)

  1. Viva La Britt says I'm still outraged that M.I.A. was "denied a visa":http://www.nme.com/news/mia/23110 into the US last year- our government is concerned with keeping the wrong _bitches_ out, know what I'm sayin'? (Have you peeped her new song "Bird Flu":http://myspace.com/mia yet? Good stuff.) I hope you have a blast in London, gijibae! You'll probably end up checking out "Astoria":http://www.koko.uk.com/ (LCD Soundsystem is playing there this week...now I'm jealous) and "Koko":http://www.koko.uk.com/ ...I'll leave the rest to the UK Mogs :)

  2. gijibae03 says britt: that's atrocious. don't you love how our government censors shit quietly and keeps in under the radar by distracting us with 5 hours of anna nicole smith? i'm sorry for her loss but gimme a break. bird flu's harder to digest for me, but maybe over time. thanks for the recommends, i'm determined to catch something live while i'm over there (although i secretly hope to just brush prince william's hair...lol). and sad to say this, but i don't know lcd soundsystem. :T we seem to have similar tastes so i should check 'em out. neill: this is awesome. i'll definitely follow your advice and pick up the gear. i dunno what these zones are, but i'm about to find out. ain't nothing like a local giving you the tips. maybe i'll run into you at the koko talking about all the rubbish. ;) thanks!

  5. gijibae03 says britt: ain't no holding me down~ ;) good call on the links...am downing as i type. neill: cool. i'm gonna try to pick up some english slang while i'm over there so i can say something more than wanker, bloody, fag, flat, & rubbish...non of which apply here right now. i guess arcade's finished crooning in the churches...unless brixton is a church. well, we'll see. maybe i'll wave an american flag at them. lol. :)
