Beautiful Garbage. Beautiful Song. Horrid Video.

While I was laying around in a roid-induced insomniac stupor a few weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that there are some music videos I absolutely MUST own before I jump on a plane and move overseas, where YouTube has some kind of weird copyright laws. Who follows laws these days, really?
On the short list was Portishead's Roseland Live, the Director's Label Series Box Sets (this links to one, there are two), and Absolute Garbage. I also need a DVD of NIN videos but still need to do the research, I am open to suggestions ;) ;)
I got myself onto Amazon as soon as I was able to type and promptly ordered Portishead and Garbage (my last Garbage collection of videos is on VHS. Still awesome). I already knew what to expect for most of the videos, because I have them on tape. I also know that Stephan Sednau and Samuel Bayer (who happen to be two of my favorites) have handled a good deal of them.
I was not expecting the 'Shut Your Mouth' video. AT. ALL. Previously unreleased in the US, I couldn't find the video online to embed. Sorry. The cartoon that is the OFFICIAL VIDEO on youtube is NOT the one on the DVD and I don't believe the one on the DVD to be "official". It was commissioned specifically for the Singles UK release.
A few critics have mentioned that in videos like this and When I Grow Up, the band seems to be most at home, on stage and performing live. Some of you might recall that this idea of rocking out live onstage is what spawned the genious that is the Bleed Like Me album.
While I will admit after seeing Shirley on-stage many times that she is definitely amazing live, this video does not do her or the song any justice at all.
Seriously, who shot this? I understand that it was the second/third iteration of the video and therefore REALLY low budget... but the directors(?) would have done a LOT better to have taken some film from their bigger and better live performances rather than the scrapings off the floor of MTV studios and whomever else had them performing for smaller groups indoors.
This won't spoil the DVD for me, I'll just always be up doing the dishes or going to the bathroom when this track is playing. And I love this song.

Is this it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtYPJwsu1tc ?
If so, I wish I hadn't seen that!
I love the videos from the first and second album era. After that, imho, videos went downhill, like the music, Bleed Like Me One aside. I especially dislike the Sophie Muller ones. Images for the sake of images.
But back to the good stuff, Queer's video by Sednaoui is one of my favourite videos of all time. Those were the days...
Who cares about videos? Compared to seeing the Ginger Witch cavorting around a stage, they are as nothing!
.
;)
I absolutely agree, nothing is better than seeing her live.
And Anna: Queer is definitely near the top for me, with Only Happy When it Rains, Why Do You Love Me? and Stupid Girl. Stephane is fucking brilliant.
I like The World is Not Enough also, but it's not too amazing and reminds me too much The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Bjork's All is Full of Love. Actually, now that I think of it, it's no wonder they invited Shirley to be a terminator after seeing her as a super badass scary robot in that video.
oh and also Anna: the one you linked to is the Official Video and is equally terrible.
For NIN vids, I'd try to find Closure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closure_%28video%29
It was recently re-released by Trent as a torrent, so you can burn it your heart's content onto DVD.
thank you!
