Songs You Should Be Listening To

There are only a handful of songs I like by The Clash. On her latest album, M.I.A. samples one of them.
Enjoy!

How fitting that tonight's Morrissey concert was held in Sun City West, the second of Del Webb's planned senior living communities on the outskirts of Phoenix. Can it really be 20 years ago that my friend Tricia and I, sharing a single set of earbuds, bounced through the halls of our high school to "Frankly Mr. Shankly"??? But rather than go on about how Morrissey's old and I'm old and the music is old, let me describe what really happened tonight. Morrissey put on a great show. It was my first time seeing him, and I honestly wasn't even expecting it to be that good. It was one of those spur-of-the-moment ticket purchases where I thought to myself, "Well, this may be your last chance to see him live, better go!" And I am so glad I did! The show opened with "The Queen is Dead" and I thought to myself: no he isn't, he's sounding (and looking) better than ever! The show included a good mix of Smiths and solo work. I cheated a little before the show and looked up the setlists on some of the fan sites...which is why i got so excited when there was the odd medley including a tinkly piano version of "Auld Lang Syne"....because I knew that next up was "How Soon Is Now?"...I was giddy with anticipation of that first guitar strum that kicks off the song, and when it finally came I was ecstatic. Surprisingly, the only song of the even to actually give me chills was "Every Day Is Like Sunday"...I mean, I've always liked the song, but I never had THAT much of an attachment to it. But when he sang the opening line, the chills went up my spine. (Sister, I'm a Poet)... I missed the opening act (kind of on purpose...didn't feel like going through a full concert extravaganza...I know, bad Mogger...) But I did catch the cool visuals being played between the acts...a real hodge podge of classic clips, from musical numbers to movie scenes to foreign commercials. I especially liked the Wardrobe Test Shots from East of Eden...speaking of James Dean, the set was amazing! One huge panel behind the band with three identical images of James Dean...it was very striking.
Track 9: The Warning Play it while viewing the Spectrogram (I had to download WinAmp and then install a PlugIn to get the Spectrogram functioning)... the soft static sound between The Warning and God Given, when viewed as an image, is the recurring "hand from the sky".

Good for you for taking the shot and seeing the show. There are few experiences that are as wonderful as seeing a favorite artist perform...it's always worth it! :)
