"Blood Into Wine" Features a Humanized Maynard James Keenan & Lotsa Grape Action!

Posted over 2 years ago

The new documentary "Blood Into Wine" is a real treat for anyone: from the wine elite to the $2 Buck Chuck crowd! The information about the inticacies of growing grapes in the inhospitable confines of Arizone high country is gripping; the glimpse into the enigmatic life of Maynard James Keenan is fascinating! MJK is taking a chance here since he cultivates that mysterious persona but ultimately comes across as a decent and intelligent businessman and vinophile. Rather than a Tool freak-he is just a T-shirt wearing, dirt-grubbing, feng shuied-monied hippie who can afford to live in the Arizone nether regions and craft some epic Jesus Juice!

A few of the less enlightened reviewers have bemoaned the different stories all being told at the same time in the documentary. Not one to suffer fools gladly-I am sure that Maynard James Keenan had a hand in how this story was formulated by the film-makers. I thought the multiple layers added a vivid texture and keep things moving along crisply although some of the bozo interviewers-segments wore out their welcome fairly quickly. Still the look on Maynard's face as these nitwitticisms were excreted=priceless.

I am happy to report that the intimidating and somewhat inapproachable Maynard James Keenan has been softened up by Mother Nature in the noble pursuit of making some damn fine wine. Maybe the Indian spirit guides or ghosts of volcano's have called into Maynard's soul-soothing words of love and chiseled away some of the frosty veneer that once caked his outlandishness and mystique. For whatever reason, I am grateful for this fine documentary and am now looking forward to the new Reality Series that I hope the directors do end up talking MJK into: "There's Good Wine in Them Their Hills!"
