The Four Tops - On Broadway
-
Artist:
The Tops' renditions of these 12 Broadway hits are, in my view, superior to the originals almost without exception. Levi Stubbs really demonstrates his range and phrasing with so-called "pop music" which, unfortunately, in the 60's was difficult for the Brothers to get recorded. I understand they had to self produce the album. "I want to be with you" is one of the great delights of the album and remains, one of my all-time favorite songs.

I have every Four Tops album except yes "On Broadway" okay I have a few of the tracks which have been on compilations but that amounts to only about three or four.
Yesterday at long last someone did me a copy from a very scratched LP and with some sound effects like a wire is coming lose but it is still like Heaven! to hear LEVI sound so natural and the Top at their very best with harmonies and backing vocals is just Amazing!
For years I have pleaded with Harry Weigner at Universal/Motown to release this album on CD but my calls have fallen on death ears so far, a few independent labels have released Motown albums to CD which Universal do not seem interested in, will someone Please release this great album.
If you have not heard the album search high and low as it is a Must!
