Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson Solo Record Finally Re-released on June 17th

Posted about 1 year ago
Next week, one of the most overlooked rock records of all-time will finally be available again on CD -- Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue. Here is a link to a promotional video for this two CD-set which includes interviews with Wilson's ex-wife, producer, and even Elvis Costello.http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/m2NG0QCZGLTCZN:m1HH46YIN6H5ZMReleased in 1977, Pacific Ocean Blue was way ahead of its time and was a critical, if not commercial, success. I have it on LP and an early 90s CD, and the music really holds up today. Other Moggers over the years have posted some some songs from the record. The big news on this release is that the second CD is made up of unreleased tracks from the would-be follow-up record, Bambu.

Way back when I had Napster I DL'd one of the songs from this album and loved it. I hope to hear more on this reissue!

I will get it from Amazon and post some tracks on Mog -- the whole thing is great and I listened to a few snippets of Bambu -- and it is interesting too.

"Bambu' has been kicking around the net for awhile. I found it really hard to listen to - Dennis was not in good shape drink 'n' drugs wise and he's often out of tune in way that's painful not technically but emotionally. He does not sound as though life is a happy thing. It will be interesting to see if  th etracks have been autotuned and cleaned up.

They posted some snippets of Bambu on Amazon.  If you watch the video, it looks like they got the Pacific Ocean Blue production team together to work on this, so I am looking forward to it.   I would have loved to meet the guy.   I only saw him once -- at my first Beach Boys show in 1980, where he did "You Are So Beautiful." He dated Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac for a couple of years, and she is a cool lady, so he must have had his good moments.

I am so glad to hear this.

I somehow remember when he drowned, even though I was a wee lad, and didn't really know who the Beach Boys were.  I do remember seeing it on the news with my parents and my dad explaining it a little, which is weird since I don't think he or my mom were really Beach Boys fans...
