Sometimes I'm wandering around Borders and get surprised.
I forgot a friend had told me that Sam Phillips is doing an in store appearance at the Tysons Corner, VA Borders this weekend. So I was surprised when he told me, and pissed when I found it is Sunday June 8th and I can't bleeping go because of a work meeting.I guess if she is doing a Borders in store, she's got a new CD out, which she does and I was surprised again because it's getting no play anywhere (except Borders I guess). After a couple of spins, this is really kind of hip low-fi. It's pretty far away from some of the stuff on her seminal "Martinis and Bikinis" record. She is also now divorced from T-Bone Burnett -- another surprise. What is not surprising is how great she looks at 45 years old! It's an "Indescribable Wow!"P.S. It's crazy how disorganized the Borders music section is -- I can't find half the stuff I look for. I still like to buy CDs, but they are making it very hard these days. I was never a big fan of Tower, but I really miss it now. There are no independent store around me now at all, except used CD stores.

Thanks for the heads up and a taste of the new one... I love it.
Proximity matters when it comes to music availability. I'm lucky to have the greatest record store (Amoeba Records in San Francisco) on the planet (or unlucky, if you consider the effect on your wallet) about ten minutes away... Cheers!
