WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Sunday Covers: Travelin' Solider by Dixie Chicks

Posted about 1 year ago
Not usually a big fan of these Harry Chapin-style songs, but this one came up in a mix I was listening to yesterday. I've seen Bruce Robison, who wrote this, do it live a number of times. I had just read about a guy who re-upped for his third tour in Irag. He said he felt like people cared about him more there than in the US, which is why he was going back. That bummed me out and then I heard this, to top off the mood.

  1. deadmandeadman says Yours is a truly enigmatic post. ??That bummed me out and then I heard this, to top off the mood.?? What bummed you out? His going back? The attitude of his fellow citizens? The attitude of the Iraqis? His attitude? His altruism? What?

  2. funoka says The fact that he feels he has to go back to Iraq to feel like people care about him is a downer. He knows he has the support of his fellow soldiers, but over here he's got no one -- just like the soldier in the song.

  5. darmuzz says I just watched the Dixie Chicks' DVD, Shut Up and Sing, this weekend. This cover song was #1 on the US country charts when their singer's comment about the US president resulted in two media conglomerates dropping the Dixie Chicks from all of their radio stations.
