Anyone heard the new BRMC album?

All Music just gave it a pretty scathing review and then granted it 3.5 stars out of 5 (compared to 4 out of 5 for each of their previous albums) which sounds like the reviewer dislikes them more than they dislike the album. But, I think I'd prefer to hear what other MOGgers think. So, what's the word?

This sticks in my head everytime I play it ... haven't listened to the album a lot but thought I'd share this anyway.

A little game I like to play ...

When I was living in London, there was this guy who I worked with who was as into music as I am with an equally large music collection. Whenever we got together at either of our places, we would inevitably get into digging through the musical vaults usually after a bit of drink (which may or may not have made it more fun).Anyway, the way it works is that you pick a song off a CD (or MP3 player, I

Does this sound like you?

My sister got me a great gift for Christmas this year ... a subscription to Walrus Magazine. Walrus dedicates itself to environmental issues, Canadian politics, literature, the arts, etc. I find it to be a rather good read.In the April issue, I came across an article called "Driven to Distraction" which is about how technology is overloading our lives with information, to the point that most peo

Why the live performance rules

After a long dry spell, I've started attending live shows again. Not sure why I fell out of the habit of going ... could be any of laziness, cold Canadian winters, moving to Toronto and not being sure what the music scene was like ... I think it's mostly laziness and complacency though. Thankfully I've rediscovered the magic of the live show and have been to 3 gigs recently with a couple more on

I feel a rant coming on ...

I'm in the process of reripping our CDs and have come across what I find to be a very odd genre description. It doesn't make any sense to me and I actually find it really, really annoying. It's the use of the word "General" to prefice genres (as in General Alternative, for example). It seems to be used pretty heavily in the metadata that's sent via Gracenote so I guess someone, somewhere finds

Joseph Arthur Solo

I had the great fortune to be able to catch Joseph Arthur live on Thursday night. He was performing as part of Canadian Music Week here in Toronto. He ended up playing for about 90 minutes and it was a solo set. Completely blew my mind ... he has such an amazing, evocative voice. He also used a lot of loops and delay effects to round out the sound which was interesting. The clincher was that

Metal: A Headbangers Journey

I just realized today that it's been ages since I've been on MOG ... the reasons (in no particular order) are many ... holidays, laziness, acquisition of a Wii (wow ... I have never really been one for video games but the Wii is addictive), acquisition of a new 80GB multimedia player ... yes, Santa was too good to us this year ... but I digress ...While recouperating on the couch yesterday after f
