I just realized today that it's been ages since I've been on MOG ... the reasons (in no particular order) are many ... holidays, laziness, acquisition of a Wii (wow ... I have never really been one for video games but the Wii is addictive), acquisition of a new 80GB multimedia player ... yes, Santa was too good to us this year ... but I digress ...
While recouperating on the couch yesterday after far too many glasses of bubbly on Sunday night, I remembered that I had recorded this film over the holidays and I thought I'd give it a go ... for those of you out there who started off listening to metal as I did (one of my first serious albums was Iron Maiden's The Number Of The Beast, followed by AC/DC, Judas Priest and Motley Crue), this is a must see ... I wouldn't say that I was huge into metal in the way many of those in the film are ... for the most part, I think I dug it because it really, really annoyed my parents ... in any event, I guess they were still my formative musical roots and I do appreaciate the heavy stuff still ... one thing I did disagree with is there were many in the film who stated that metal is a form of rebellion and about letting people know they are different ... it wasn't like that for me (aside from pissing my parents off) ... where i grew up (Canadian midwest), metal was the accepted form of music to be listening ... it would have been a lot more rebellious and different to be listening to The Cure or The Smiths or the Violent Femmes ... so, based on my personal experience I don't really see metal as a form of "I don't give a sh*t what you think of me" type of expression as some in the film implied ... but you should definitely draw your own conclusions ... here's a link where you can check out more info on it: http://www.metalhistory.com/ ... the dude who made the film is Canadian (coincidentally) and an anthropologist in addition to his credentials as a headbanger :-)

My Trusted MOGs
I've said it before, and I know I'm biased, but it's never been more appropriate than now to repeat it - anthropologists rock.
My Trusted MOGs
well sounds like someone had a happy holidays...
My Trusted MOGs
Yeah....I "netflix'ed" this up sometime before Thanksgiving. Totally fun as all hell to watch and very well done.
That huge chart he came up with to "breakdown" where all the different sub-genres came out of was impressive to say the least.
