It's Carnival Time

Posted over 4 years ago
Sunday was Twelfth-Night, traditionally the kick-off to Carnival season down in New Orleans. And actually, with Fat Tuesday falling early this year (February 5th), Carnival balls held by some of the krewes have been happening for close to a month by now. Since I was derelict in my duty last night, I'll put up a double-shot today to kick off things heading towards Mardi Gras. One could do worse than to start Carnival season with the Indians. Here's the Wild Magnolias, with the original 45 rpm acoustic version of Handa Wanda. We'll hear (a lot) more from the classic Magnolias records (backed by Willie Tee and his band) in the next few weeks, but this was the record that led to those historic early 70's sessions in Bogalusa, LA's Studio in the Country.

  1. Lady Miss Ian says That'd get me dancing down the street! ;-) Living at the other end of the Mississippi, it's always too dang cold during carnival time for people to get off their butts and do it up right, so all us North Coast 2nd liners have to enjoy things vicariously. Thanks for sending the warmth upstream.
