Let's revisit one of music's legendary influential bands: Joy Division. Sure, you're familiar with their discography and their transformation into New Order. But how familiar are you with their sound before they became known as Joy Division? They started off by naming themselves Warsaw and were as raw and gritty as most of the British punk appearing on the scene in the late 1970's before producer Martin Hannett discovered the darkness and atmosphere that was Joy Division's signature sound. A self-titled Compilation, Warsaw was released in 1989, which compiles their early tunes. Many of the songs were later covered as "Joy Division" and it's interesting to hear the change in sound (compare it with Joy Division's "Shadowplay") and Ian Curtis's pre-signature-baritone voice.

sweet tune, not usually my kind of thing, but today is hump day, at least for me it is, and Mog has cheered me up, so thanks to you. Hope you heard the audible clank of my glass water bottle as I said, "cheers FUNK ," and tapped it against my computer screen.

And today's slightly under-rated band are... The Willowz straight outta Anaheim, California. This track comes from a 20-minute album (for the extremely ADHD ) of snappy lo-fi indie rock tunes.

I had the pleasure of seeing Kid Koala, DJ Shadow, and Cut Chemist in Minneapolis on Monday evening. Sets from all the DJs were great.

I respect the broad-ranging musical taste of all the DJs - there was definitely something for everyone in the mix. Shadow obviously had an impressive stack of 45s. There were four turntables to each DJ. Kid Koala opened and DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist presented their "Hard Sell" installment. I'm not gonna lie; I prefer their "Brainfreeze" set like presumably everyone else, but this one had its moments. They're still a force to be reckoned with. The pairing of visual stimulation (various clips, a mini-documentary on vinyl records, blown-up views of what the DJs were doing on stage) on two large screens with the set was nice.

My personal favourite part of the night was Kid Koala's rendition of Audrey Hepburn's "Moon River."

I wasn't sure why you liked "Moon River" so much, that is, until about the 2 minute mark when Koala really starts mixing it up. Plus, I love the original of this song too. They're coming to play around my way in a week...sucks for me that I'm broke!

Didn't Michael Stipe once say that if there was a better song written than "Moon River" he'd like to hear it?
