DC's claim to musical fame: go-go music
Go-go is a subgenre of funk that originated in the DC area during the mid- to late-1970s. A handful of bands contributed to the early evolution of the genre, but singer-guitarist Chuck Brown is credited with having developed most of the hallmarks of the style. He is the godfather of go-go music!
This style of music and the bands that fall into this category/style of music have had little success outside of the DC metro area (NoVA, DC, MD).
You all might know E.U.'s song, "Da Butt" --- this brought go-go music to a national scene.
Some might know Rare Essence's "Overnight Scenario". Here is a sample of Overnight Scenario.

The really left field connection is Chuck's association with Eva Cassidy. Someone in the Carly Simon, Carole King school of singing, though not so much songwriting, she couldn't get signed by a label because the A&R idiots couldn't figure out in what pigeonhole to stuff her. Chuck of course recognised a phenomenal musician and helped her quite a bit. Sadly, she died right before she became a big hit in the UK.
But yeah - it's Ferriday! Let the drums begin!
